Not a typical brag. I went to zellers again yesterday (not because I wanted to, I LOATHE that store) my son came home from school Friday with his soles falling off his shoes. These shoes were purchased on September 06 and are only used on school days so roughly 1 month of daily wear outside only.
I get that boys can be rough on stuff which was my reason for buying from zellers with the kidwear guarentee on its childrens shoes and apparel. Apparently this policy only adheres to items with a specified tag and there are very few that bare this tag.
Either way the shoes being 1 month old I went in and the cashier at customer service sent me to find an identical pair in the same size. I was fine with this but when I could no find the identical shoe in his size I grabbed a same brand different color shoe in the same size and headed for CS desk. The cashier looked at the new pair and exclaimed that these shoes are not included in the kidwear policy so I was out of luck.
I went back to the car becasue my husband was waiting for me with 5 kids and I really didn't have the time to argue. I knew the cashier was just being a brat so I called from my cell on the way to our destination and asked for the manager who assure me I can bring in the shoes tomorrow and exchange them. Even though they are not a part of kidwear she agreed that the glue holding the sole on should last longer then 1 month of wear. The cashier who was problematic (and has been EVERYTIME I go to cs at this zellers) was going to be spoke to by the manager.
I hate to get the girl in crap but really, she was being a jerk for nothing.

They don't make things like they used to...but I agree, the shoes should have lasted longer than one month! Five children needing shoes every month would sure tax the family clothing budget! I would have done the same thing as you...Hopefully the cashier gets sorted out, doesn't seem too professional to me.

Interesting to note that Zellers wear-out policy only applies to certain products. Didn't know that. My children are older, and they are into the really expensive footwear (just you wait). I have found that the more expensive brands are made to last longer, although there are exceptions too. When they are little, their feet grow so quickly that you would expect they out-grow the shoes before the shoes wear out!

I feel exactly like you. I hate Zellers! The workers are always this way...
Whenever I buy shoes from Zellers or Walmart they literally rip to pieces!!! I can't even believe it...from inside to outside it just falls apart in less than 3 months. I went to the CS desk once and got nothing, so I gave up on that.

Now we only buy quality brand-name shoes - very pricey but definitely worth it!!
Loving my kids while saving money at the same time!!

Me3 ...hate Zellers Staff are always rude and everyone seems to make up their own rules. Avoid it like the plague. However, recently discovered it's better to go evenings - the younger, part-time staff are much more friendly and easygoing.

That's why my parents never bought me shoes from there as a child. Bad quality and over-expensive!

Meh... I bought 4 pairs of shoes from Zellers... a pair of ballet flats, brown slouch riding boots, grey ankle boots and flat black boots... All of them seem fantastic. All 4 came to under $200 with tax.

I guess everyone has a different opinion! I happen to really like Zellers and am sad about them turning into Targets. I support CDN businesses

As someone who used to work at Zellers I have to say that the workers often get a bad wrap. The policies are given to the workers to follow and they are expected to do so. The policy on exchanging that was drilled into us was that the item had to be the exact same item, same size, same color, no exceptions. The managers would look over any return/exchange slips several times a day and question them. The managers however when confronted with a customer would give in because although they expected the staff to follow protocol they did not want the hassle. When asked why they didn't often back the staff up on policies they were very adamant the staff follow we were told "I'm the manager. It's my store, I can do things how I want."

We were often made fools of, yet if we tried to be more lenient on the policies we were yelled at, talked down to, and generally belittled. As my supervisor used to say "S**t rolls down hill." This was my experience with the company as an employee. I often see people complaining about the staff 'making up their own rules'. However, in my experience it's the managers that are making up the rules as they go depending on how they're feeling that day. Most of the staff I know are only trying to do the job they're being paid (very little) for. They have to take the c**p from both ends, the customers and management. Caught between a rock and a hard place. I hate Zellers at this point too, but it's because of how the management treat the employees. I haven't worked there in 3 years, but still cringe every time I see one of the managers. I hope this helps at least one person see that it's not always the staff being an a** by not being lenient on the policies, although obviously that happens too.
