Back in the day, schools were closed on Remembrance Day.
Sad how the meaning is being lost.

In British Columbia, Remembrance Day is a statutory holiday -- always has been. I know that it is not in Ontario, because my husband's head office is there and they are always open on November 11th. I will bite my tongue at the comment that making it an official holiday is "silly". Although I am probably what most would consider a pacifist, I am deeply grateful and respectful of the sacrifices made by our armed services men and women. Lest we forget....

It's only an official holiday in some provinces (except govt workers get it nationally I think). When I moved to ON from BC, couldn't believe it wasn't a stat in ON. Agree with Shwa Girl - sad , the meaning is lost.

Btw, wtg Amanda - great finds!!

I too will bite my tongue....at the "silly" comment. I don't think there is anything silly about it.
