Looking for a PVR!

I want to buy a rogers PVR for christmas as a gift to someone, but they are $500.00!! Do they ever go on sale?

... think of something else as a gift. Though most people still haven't caught on it makes almost no sense to buy a cable-company PVR. They go obsolete after about a year and are very prone to failures. Once a unit fails and you take it in for repairs they'll swap you another repaired/refurbished piece of junk which will likely also fail again after a few months.

Renting is the only way to go with PVRs. No worries about getting stuck with a string of lemons, and you can upgrade to the next newer model as soon as it comes out.

For a year now we have been using an external hard drive. When you hook it up it will reformat . It only cost us $79.00 for a 1TB. It works great.

You can go to your cable, Sat supplier page & it should tell you how to hook it up.

Buy a Tivo! I bought my Tivo used off ebay 5-6 years ago, and it still works great. Though they are not sold in Canada, they still work totally fine here and can be setup easily. I paid 52$ for my tivo, and pay 12$ per month for updating etc. I've played with other PVR systems at friends houses, and my Tivo is still my favourite.

I cannot imagine a) paying 500$ for a PVR, and b) ever having to watch live tv again! Goodbye commercials

Videotron was giving an HD PVR when you added a service to your package (a two year deal) and then after that you either buy a new one or keep the one you have and buy it at a cheaper price. Try kijiji.ca or usedcanada.com.
