Even if it was for germs, every surface in a school is like a cesspool of snot, spit, drool and germs of every kind, plus occasionally blood, vomit, urine or fecal matter. NO surface in a school that children have been near or on is clean.
This kind of makes me sick, how paranoid we are as a society now. If there is an issue with ONE child, ban THEM from hugging if they use it to grope another person or whatever. Don't ban everyone...

Like I said I'm 38 and even back in high school I saw it a lot. and it wasn't one complaint about people being hugged that didn't want it, there were rampant complaints. I can say that if that was back then in the late 80's I can only imagine how things have gotten since then.

It was typical in my high school ( late 1970's/early 80's) for some boys to "hug" girls who were more endowed than others. And it was definately to cop a feel...

Stephen doesn't strike me as the hugging type.
I am all for not hugging and let me tell you why. If it is explained properly to the kids then they will understand that they are spreading so many GERMS. My daughter tells me she is always hugging or being hugged and she is always coming home with some bug or another. Last week she missed 4 days because of pink eye for crying out loud. Last year she missed 20 days because of various bugs. Limited contact would cut down so much on the spread of germs and of course there is always the lice issue.
Schools are cesspools of germs.

I feel bad for the teacher's!! How can you tell young kids not to hug eachother. I often work at my kids preschool and can't imagine having to deny hugs from those kids!! I think it's more important to teach children how to set limits and show them how to "use their words" when they don't want physical contact!

My daughter missed a lot of school last year, she was almost constantly sick! This year has been a lot better so far, now my little one year old is catching everything! Another thing that would help is if people stop sending their kids to school while sick!!! I see too many kids that are obviously ill being sent to school when they should be at home.... perhaps in one of those bubbles!Check out my tradelist!http://forum.smartcanucks.ca/220366-...e-list-canada/

I think the side hug is a better option.

That's where I believe the problem lies.
Parents sending their children to school sick. When I was working at a school I can not tell you how many times I had parents send very sick children to class because they just can not miss one day.
If your children are sick please keep them home, they are much better off resting and getting better than at school miserable, tired and contaminating everyone else!
