I don't have a SDM card but I feel sorrry for those who were caught in this mess .
I also feel sorry for Sally since there was a troll gunning for her, personally. And for Boo who does so much good here. And the other mods..I wouldn't want to miss them out but I'm only sure of Amberlab and Rose's names
...sorry.

I just feel so stupid for not noticing the very plain "We do not endorse the trading of SDM points" in the trade post-it. I see SDM points on so many wishlists! As unhappy as I am that this happened and to some great people too, it's a good lesson for those of us just starting out with the Optimum program.
I'm just wondering what the response is for those people who lost points who didn't have any ties to SC. Could they have been targetted simply because they were connected to one of the accounts ged for potential trading?

Well Carly I received the call. They said because of the trading I compromised my account and they would not return my points. So they are gone. Carly did you ever trade ( or worse admit it to them?), then you may get the same answer. But if you didn't maybe you will fare better than me.
I am still in shock. It was hard to take it in. I think I will go and cry now.Looking for: Yogurt (FPCs)

I'm also very sorry to hear about people losing their points in such an awful way, especially at Christmas. SDM could have easily restored the points and sent stern warnings.
I'm not sure if we'll ever have all the answers but I'm sure Smartcanucks will be better after having gone through all this. SDM however, just ends up looking like Scrooge.

There should be a super sale before Christmas and an apology from the company.
I hope that Shoppers lurks on this board and takes these comments into considersation.
Shoppers is missing a great opportunity to win friends back(Optimum points users affectd) and make new friends (new shoppers/Optimumers).

Has it been confirmed that the people who are missing points had them stolen or did SDM shut their accounts down due to suspected trading?
Either way, I suggest that all SCers start posting messages on the SDM Facebook page requesting that the optimum transfer page be taken down immediately (transfers could still be done by phone) and that the online system undergo security upgrades (i.e. password instead of postal code).
If it's the latter, I have a feeling this will be a difficult lesson for all involved.Last edited by fayemercier; Thu, Dec 8th, 2011 at 08:00 AM.

Sally did they tell you whether or not your points had been redeemed by a thrid party?
That's what I was thinking too, in SDM's narrowest definition of trading, they might see this as warranted application of the legalese. In essence, they may feel that a group leader is not gifting points to someone, they are trading the points for a service performed, where otherwise not performed would negate the entitlemet to said points.

I thought one person mentioned that her points had been redeemed in a distant city? I could be wrong as the thread is now gone. Irrespective of the cards being voided or points not being returned for trading, it's still theft. The only common denominator would be found amonst the people who actually had their points redeemed. I understand SDM is assuming no responsibility for the theft if they suspect points trading, but you'd think they would still want to catch the thief?
In the end, I guess they probably wouldn't have a case against the person even if they caught them, because if it is someone the affected parties have traded with, all they have to say is "So-and-so traded me the points for $200 worth of coupons". There wouldn't be a way to prove otherwise, and all the thief would be guilty of is breach of the TOS for trading [subject to revocation of points that no longer exist, or a voided card that can easily be replaced if it hasn't already].
However, even if SDM looks at it all in that way, surely people don't give other people permission to change the personal information on the account. That one's a poser, and while I understand they assume no liability for it if there has been suspected trading on the account, surely the fact the information has been changed should work in favor of the affected people to demonstrate theft as opposed to trading/gifting the points away.
Still interested to hear how many of the affected have had their points revoked vs redeemed. Good luck.
