So Prime Minister Stephen Harper will be playing a hockey game.
Against Russia.
Against Putin.

Putin, he is a mean little machine, and besides he can skate right between Harper's legs.

Well, a couple of hours after I posted this thread, the Prime Minister's office put out a statement.
The Toronto Star made an error.
There won't be a game with Harper after all.
Thanks Toronto Star

LOL, the tinfoil hat gal buried inside me thinks that maybe it's not a news error, but a change of heart about a hockey game.
A potential scenario:
Maybe Harper started some trash talkin' about the good ol' Canada-Russia hockey rivalry. Perhaps he started going all Don Cherry-style and calling the Russian players bad names.
Putin, of course, has a reputation of being a bit aggressive... so of course he will rise to the bait. Then Putin calls up Harper and goes, "Well, bro, if that's the way you want it, let's take this outside - to the ice rink!"
Harper, of course has to say yes as he was the one who was calling Putin on - hey, you have to save face on the international stage, right?! But then, after hanging up the phone, Harper starts to realize that this isn't a done deal. Sure, both Canadian and Russian hockey players are among the best in the world, but going mano-a-mano with the Russian leader, is that really what he wanted?
For starters, Putin's in way better shape than Harper; I doubt Harper would be able to keep up in a mad dash for the puck.
Second, we know that Harper's French gets a C+; he might have trouble communicating with members of the Canadian team, jeopardizing their teamwork, whereas Putin can readily bark orders at his squad.
Lastly, there is always the worry that all those rink-side double-doubles will be counted as "performance enhancing drugs" (caffeine is a stimulant), meaning that there would be the potential for disqualification and forfeiture before the game really got going.
So, what's a leader gonna do when his bark is big but his bite is a mere nibble? Well, why not blame it on a journalistic misprint and try to laugh it all off.... That'd make it all seem like a silly misunderstanding because nobody would believe the leaders would get all uppity over a good ol' hockey game, eh?
Well, that'll work for now, but Harper had better bring some skates and a stick to the next G8 meeting just in case
That's my take on it anyways.
*noisily removes tinfoil hat and goes back to work*

I think leaders need to take themselves a little less seriously and maybe use sport instead of diplomatic spats, military arms races, or any of the fiscal measures/rankings to determine who comes out on top. It might just lead us to having a bit more fun and getting rid of aggression/anger in more productive ways
LOL, just watch out, though, if Harper starts trash talking against the Chinese government again... I can't see him standing a chance in a game of ping pong; it could get ugly
