I live in alberta and I use french coupons all the time. The stores cannot refuse them, as long as they are not expired and do not state for use in Quebec only. I have never run into trouble and I have used them at LD, SW, RCSS and WM.

I went to WM the other day and kind of got into an small argument with a cashier's supervisor. The cashier was great but her supervisor overheard it was a French coupon and started to refuse to take them. After giving me attitude and asking me where I got my coupons, I told her that I managed at another WM and that she can take the French coupons. If the Cash Office employee doesn't read French, that's not really my problem. It said it was redeemable in ON only and showed the expiry date.
It really depends what stores you go to.. generally stores cannot and should not refuse French coupons.

After a long argument with WM and discussion with HO from the CS phone - they don't have to take any coupon at all, if they do not have someone who can read french, they can not ensure the terms of the coupon are met so they don't have to take it. The manager did go through the cashiers and ask if they spoke French and found some that did, she pointed them out to me and said to make sure I go in their lines if I have French coupons. If I couldn't see any of them when I went into the store, I would check with CS before I started shopping and they would find me one

@misstarbender
I'm all for promoting the use of French coupons outside QC but if you're talking about the 2$ Janes from the Surgeles booklets we get here in QC upc 57730820... those are only valid in QC. There used to be a 3$ coupon for Janes in Surgeles booklets that was valid across Canada but that one expired 12/31/2011. Most of the other coupons in that booklet are valid across Canada though.
