We went into CT over the weekend with our scratch cards, and to pick up a couple little stocking stuffers that were in their flyer.
I couldn't find what I was looking for, so I went to a staff member who was at the sporting good counter. She told me that the item was either in aisle 44, or in the front. Fair enough, I checked both places, but not there.
So I went to a clerk and asked him where said item could be found.
The response?
"I don't know."
Not, "I'm not sure, but I'll find out for you!" Not "Let me ask someone!" Just a plain I don't know. I guess I was kind of looking expectantly at him, waiting for him to say something else, so he added a shrug and, "I really don't know!"

So I had to wait in line at the customer service counter for ten minutes, where I learned that they did not have the item (despite it being the first day of the sale) and that they would not give raincheques on it.This thread is currently associated with: Canadian Tire, GuessLast edited by Zonny; Mon, Nov 22nd, 2010 at 09:30 AM.

I also have to give a thumbs down to Canadian Tire. I went in last week to buy an IPod Dock that was on sale for $19.99. First off, the sale had started on Friday but when my husband went in on Saturday there were none on the shelf. He asked if there were any more....turns out they had not even put any out on the shelf yet. So he gets one and brings it home, works fine....next morning it wouldn't work at all. Fine, he goes to bring it back for a refund and gets told "we don't do money back, you have to take store credit". What? Last time I buy electronics from Canadian Tire.

From what I have read before it's not the stores fault they didn't have the stocking stuffers. The flyers are printed months ahead. The stores are at the mercy of what is shipped in by truck. The truck only has what is supplied to them by the manufacturers. They can't give you a raincheck because it's a seasonal item that they won't be getting any more of.

OK, I will admit that CT (this location anyhow) HAS given me good service at least one time in the past.
We had purchased a deck box - a Black and Decker product that's just a big resin box for keeping your spare deck stuff. It was packed in a flat box in pieces, and you had to put it together.
We don't own a car, but had a rental car for the weekend. We live about a ten minute walk from the store, but this thing was rather heavy and awkward to carry. So we picked it up in the rental car, just before bringing the car back.
Awhile later, DH started taking the pieces out to put it together. And more than half were cracked or broken!
I called the store and explained the problem, and the person at customer service who answered the phone was completely uncoorperative, said there was nothing they could do, they could not replace it without our dragging it back to the store somehow. So I asked to speak to a manager.
SHE on the other hand was helpful! She listened, then asked if she could call us back. A few minutes later she did, to tell us that one of her employees would be coming to our house with another one for us!
Fortunately my DH is smart. Before the guy left, he insisted on opening up the new box. Sure enough, half the pieces in there were broken too! But between the two boxes, there were enough intact bits to build the deck box.
