Illegal?! Whaat! The cashier is out of it and either very poorly trained or on a power trip. Your poor mother! That is so sad.

aww your poor mom i feel so bad that they treated her that way i dont know whats with the shoppers in edmonton -
the one by my house only lets me use 1 yes 1 coupon per visit - i even spoke to the manager, emailed head office and called head office 5 times and they all say the same thing - it is up to the store manager how many coupons they allow per visitLast edited by brittanyandkyle; Fri, Dec 3rd, 2010 at 04:36 AM.

Never!!!
I mean seriously, if that customer had a hidden camera and taped that whole exchange he/she woudl definitely have won America's Funniest Home Videos...do we have a Canadian version? Anywho, it would also get lots of air time on a radio station and I'm sure some talk show would list it as one of their "Top 10" whatever's of the week! Ahhh, when I need a good laugh I recall that story. Ridonkulous!

I am a cashier, and there is no such law... we accept any coupon as long as its canadian and still active. Thats aweful that she gave her such a hard time, i hope you talk to the manager at the store.

That's absolutely unacceptable. Hopefully SDM head office will investigate this issue and give you some bonus points for inconvenience.

I feel so terrible for your mom. it must be playing in her mind like a broken record...i know i'd do the same thing. arrgghhh! I don't let too many things tick me off but I will not stand for people treating others so disrespectfully. Now I REALLY hope SDM does something about this including an in-person apology from the store manager. keep us posted glenglen.

some cashiers like to make up their own rules. some do it out of jealousy, some do it to keep the coupons to themselves.
the 2nd sdm i went to that refused my save $5wub3 greenworks coupon gave me 4 reasons why i couldn't use it:
1) i could not use it if a bottle of laundry detergent is not included in the 3 items (because of the "and/or" wording)
2) i could not use it if 2 of the 3 items i get are identical, i.e. all 3 had to be different products
3) i could not use it because the greenworks products are on sale, and that coupons cannot be used on sale-items
4) i could not use it because the store manager told her so
i know what she said was a whole lot of bu11sh1t, but it's not worth my time to debate with her. i guess i'll just stick with the sdm's i'm familiar with and closer to from now on.

Awww, glad to hear your mom is feeling a little better. All she was trying to do was save herself a little money and was made to feel like a thief.
Hope shoppers gives her some optimum points for her grief
