Has anyone received points for re-loading an old card?

Can't say that I have tried. I usually just throw them out when they are emptied. Never occured to me to ask if I could re-load the card that I just used!

I'm thinking of reusing the one I have, hoping that it will keep one more piece of plastic out of our landfill. Every bit helps!

I'll report back when I find out.

I used to ALL the time. You can only refill the ones with variable amounts though I think. I haven't done it in awhile though.

I used this strategy yesterday for the first time. First I bought $75 gift card and paid with my SDM credit card. Got 750 base points for buying the gift card and an additional 1125 points for paying with my credit card, and no problem at all paying with the credit card. Then, I bought $75 of product and paid with my gift card. Got another 750 base points for that purchase, plus 20X the points for buying the Optimum Hot Spot product of the week. Additional bonus: got the $20 Petro Canada gas card for spending $75.

YES!!!! I have been using my re-loadable card for over a year. My kids even decorated it with stickers for me! Help save the planet one card at a time... Unless they have a BP promo like back in Nov... Then it's justified to buy as many new ones as you like

Thanks so much for the info! I will have to try that. I've hated seeing new gift cards being thrown out -- was such a waste.

I just thought of something. When we get our GC loaded, we always use a sharpie to keep track of the outstanding balance. So it would be hard to re-use ours, it would mean we would have to keep crossing out balances and re-writing new ones.. it would create a mess eventually!!

On the other hand, I do reuse my Tim Horton card all the time. It is set up to auto reload from my credit card whenever it gets below $5.00. So in that way I am doing my part for the planet!

The SDM card would be more difficult but by no means impossible! Will have to think about this one.

I always just keep my most recent SDM receipt with the card in my wallet. It says how much $ is left, and it doubles as a point reference for me to double check nothing is wonky with my points.

I also keep my latest SDM receipt to ensure my points are correct. But it never occurred to me to also track the balance left on my gc. Thanks so much! SCers rock!!

Not sure if anyone else out there has a Shoppers Optimum card and a CT Mastercard, but the CT Mastercard has a feature on it that allows you to make bill payments similar to how you would using online banking. You can search for MBNA Mastercard and enter your Optimum Mastercard number and make your payment.

It means you get Optimum points on purchases and then CT Money when you pay your Optimum Mastercard off with your CT Mastercard. I've been doing it for a few months now and am earning $25-$30 a month in CT money.

You can also use the CT mastercard to pay bills that normally aren't payable by Credit Card like property taxes and utility bills. It's a great way to rack up extra CT Money.

Do you have the link for the mommymonika post from Feb .2? Are you sure it is not considered as cash advance when paying bills by CC online?

I got my CT statement yesterday and the charge from SDM is on there and is just a normal charge. So it worked out fine. I will be paying off my SDM bill this way when it comes from now on!

Also, Chris used our GC to re-load it today. It had a balance of $3.43 on it and he added $30.00 to it and it came out at 33.43. So it worked out fine as well.
