my hubby just called and he is on his way back from his hunting trip and he got a deer!
So yay no need to buy meat for a while (except chicken or pork) but still big chunk of $$$$ out of our budget

I'm glad to hear you can use this catch! About how much meat will it be? I have no idea about these things. I was just thinking the other day that it's great when people can go fishing and catch their meals that way - and now you're all set for a lot more than 1 meal!

This is my hubby's first year since we moved back to BC and i am so excited to have a full freezer!
And my mom in law mixes burger if the meat is too "gamey" or marinates it for 24+ hours. but over all i think i have almost got use to it. my DH doesn't even taste a difference and the kids are fine with it so i am a happy mommy =) coz if the kids like it im all for it! LOL

ya we do a lot of fishing we have 17 salmon in our freezer right now and a bunch of smoked salmon.
and im not sure in pounds how much it ends up being but we will get probably a few good roasts, at least a dozen steaks or more and a bunch of burger and the smaller pieces are usually cut up for stewing meat. i'm not sure on the size of the deer but even a smaller deer you get at least 3-5 months of meat my hubby said.

Right on!
I remember being a kid and having some close friend's hunt... their whole family. was there once when they had a deer in the house, whole....... oh boy. Not something I was ready/wanting to see, lmao!!
I'm not a big fan of the meat... but it's nice to try once in a while.
Enjoy!!

this may be a silly question but....who cuts up the meat? do you take the deer to a butcher?

yummy! I love deer meat ground up into spagettti sauce. If its not a game-y deer then it tastes so much better than regular hamburger.

That's awesome! My freezer if full of deer too, don't have to buy roasts or burger all winter! Cuts the budget way down!
