I'm not a Magic Jack user myself, but I do have friends who swear by their Magic Jacks, particularly those who have nice fast Internet connections. For the cost of the device plus an additional $20 a year after the first year, it's a frugal solution to making long distance calls and receiving calls. (Canadian area codes are available for an additional $10/year)

I have tried it and the phone quality was awful, similar to international calls when I was a kid and you are given a US number so although people can call you back on it, it is long distance unless you pay for the Cdn number. When my friend bought it, it did not have any local Cdn numbers and she could not check before buying
