I am jumping up and down!!!!

My devlopmentally delayed child took the scissors to some of my keep brandsaver coupons!!!
Whooooo, hoooooo, YES

I know many would freak, but let me share with you why.
Ever since she was 5 months old we have had therapy due to her syndrome, as we knew that she will have global devlopemental delays.
We use to work on just picking things up, dropping things, to the pincer grasp, and forever it feels like, we have been doing hand over hand, pencil grip, and of course scissor skills.
I found coupons cut up, and I couldn't be anymore happy!!! We have reached , yet big developmental skill using my coupons! This thread is currently associated with: N/Ajessekaa

Oh, that's awesome - and I understand what you mean! She just wanted to do what Mom was doing, cutting coupons!
How old is she? Maybe now she's going to be ready to move on to other cutting activities!

Funny how you take things like holding scissors as a given. My son also is delayed, however we weren't as clever as you to have started fine motor skill training early enough. Going into Grade 2 he was at 'normal' milestones cognitively, he had learned a lot in preschool and at home so nothing was obvious until his Grade 2 teacher noticed that he couldn't hold the scissors nor move his fingers to make them work. He's 13 now and I still dont trust him with scissors or a sharp knife even though these are things we now practice almost daily. He's been working at middle school on Shop carpentry projects and i'm spazzing out thinking of him using power tools.

My daughter has autism and is delayed in all areas. I could see how you would be happy about cut up coupons. We arent there yet but if she did do this I would have to say " They are just pieces of paper and you can always get more"

Ya, we have to hide the scissors now, LOL. She doesn't like the tags on her shirts and will try to cut them off while she is wearing the top..
It was our geneticist who made sure Rachel started with a OT, PT and a social worker early!! In the past year we added horsey therapy!!!!jessekaa

That's awesome!! My daughter is 4 and though not developmentally delayed she gets frustrated with using scissors but I managed to find a scissor cutting skills book at walmart for about $3 to help her. They're in with the activity books for kids-maybe something to look for to help your daughter-very colourful and fun-cut and paste!!

That's awesome.
As Natalka said, she's trying to imitate you.
She will be a great SC when she is bigger.
Congrats!

WOW, what a milestone for her, and you! You better get more coupons for her to practise on, lol. You must be so very proud of her. I remember the first time my niece walked. She has spina bifida, it is so very exciting. Congrats!!!
