how to make referals shorter?

i noticed alot of people have made their referal links shorter in their signature and i know ilmk did it for me in the cute baby contest last year. so how do you do that?

as you see in my signature i have more pictures of jade instead of the long link

replace { with [
{url=this is where you put the link to the site}this is where you type what you want people to see like in your siggy's now{/url}

does that make any sense

1. Type out a set of words. In this example we will use the words CHECK THIS OUT
2. Type them out in your sig or whatever post you'd like to use them.
3. Open another tab or browser and find the page you wish to link to.
4. Copy the entire link
5. Highlight your set of words
6. Click the insert URL button
7. Paste or Control V into the box that comes up.
8. Hit ok.
9. Your set of words should be hyper linked.

SO... "CHECK THIS OUT" and http://www.forum.smartcanucks.ca/sho...84&postcount=5

LOL I think she may make more sense out of yours than mine...I couldn't figure out how to show the code without it messing up what i was trying to explain LOL
