I dont think they really need to be separated, they give as much info as each other, unless someone is super generous or there is a problem, there is no need for much detail
but it would be nice to know if its train passengers giving ratings to others (if you think about a VWT, every person could be giving & receiving 15 ratings if they are giving them to the other passengers for the coupons they received, an easy way to pad your ratings)

90% of traders that leave rating do leave more than just thanks for the trade.
but if I am checking traders that mostly do trains those ratings tell me nothing.
I think having two areas to leave comments is not needed.
often traders leave comments in the second section that can only be read by a mod that would be more helpful for others to see like: trade went as expected or generous trader or easy to get along with etc.
I would like just one comment area and maybe the comments would be more descriptive and it would also take less time having to put comments in two places.
I would like train conductors to leave more descritive comments like: followed rules. sent correct boarding pass generous to other riders etc.

Those comments can be left in the details, are you checking the details? Traders or train riders can utilize this.

Everyone has to remember your trade rating number only counts once per person.
For example every time I ride with person X I don't get an additional bump in my overall trade rating, only once for person X ever.
So really this doesn't pad ratings at all, most trains are the same riders over and over again.

So use the reg box, say 'generous rider, followed all rules etc'

For example...the latest train I am conducting only has 1 rider on it that I have never traded or rode a train with in the past.
So even when all riders leave feedback for my train I will only have 1 additional point added to my feedback score from that new rider, all others won't count because they have given me a rating in the past. So only get 1 additional point in my feedback score for much more work than a simple one on one trade.

I guess no system is perfect
& no rating system will cover all situations.

I get what you are saying as I have done over 1200 trades but only have a rating of 535 and although I may do many more trades but the number doesn't rise anyone looking at my itrader page will see exactly how many trades I have actually done ...so it all works out in the wash ..as long as none are negative I am happy

Just curious if I'm missing something or getting this wrong. However the way I'm reading it looks like you would like to give every person you leave a rating for the exact same comments. Don't see how that helps anyone or is any better, just wondering is all. Would be like on ebay where someone left multiple comments to 20 different people each consisting of one word "ok"..
