nope ...what many people interpret as "expiry dates", are actually meant by the food industry as "Best By" Or (US) "Better By", mainly for goods such as crackers, cookies, prepackaged mixes where the 'crispness' may be lost over time.
.....I currently have some Hunt's tomatoes in my pantry that are 'best by' 2011....I had gotten lots of free/almost free ones..........I'm using them up quickly anyways in lots of soups & stews these days because of the cold weather.
