I'm thinking about redeeming for a digital camera and would appreciate some recommendations. It's only for occasional use, so I would prefer to find one under $100. I was told to look at Canon, and stay away from Kodak. Anyone have models they can recommend?
I saw in the online flyer for Ontario this week some cameras on sale but I can't make out the brands or models on them and this wasn't in my copy of the flyer (I'm in Quebec, but we usually have almost the same flyer as Ontario).
Thanks for any suggestions!

You may be able to get the flyer online for your area on the Shoppers Drug Mart site.
I personally would get a Canon or Sony. We have both at home and they have worked out very good for us.
I would however recommend that you buy a camera with a rechargeable battery. My husband had a Kodak camera previously, which used AA batteries, we found that the batteries would not last more then a day.

I'd also recommend a Sony. My last 3 point/clicks have all been Sonys and I still use them as my beaters.
I even got the water casing and it's a blast at the beach to go swimming with and you don't have to worry about sand. The same camera in casing was left outside during a winter cause I made a snowman with the kids and forgot it (white casing) and when the snow melted, it worked great.Christa

I am in QC.
I got a Canon A3100 IS for son few months ago. 14mp 4x zoom. Picture quality is very good.
I do not recommend Sony. I got daughter a Sony a lot earlier (seeing smile capture). You may not find the difference of picture quality in daylight or indoor pic.
BUT night time outdoor. We had the two camera taking the same night time outdoor pic: we have a very dark picture from Sony but the Canon flash is so powerful, we can see very clear.
Now daughter always took son's camera to go out taking pictures.

Interesting how peoples' opinions differ.
Stay away from Olympus - not that great pic quality, but the worst of all is how it eats batteries - they keep draining even if you don't have the camera on... it's horrible!
BEST camera is one we got from SDM last year (free with pts) - I'm sure newer models are out by now though. It's a Kodak EasyShare Z915 - absolutely wonderful pictures, video is great - and best of all, is the batteries last such a very long time (we use regular ones) - so happy with it!

Im 100% with Natalka. thats what I have. and I LOVE my camera. the only reason i'd upgrade is if I kept it for 'everyday' shots and bought a more high powered camera for 'fancy' pics.

We have an Olympus and are not happy with it. We had a Canon powershot previously and loved it. I'm planning on redeeming for a Canon this weekend.

I thought I had posted an update but I realize I totally forgot. My apologies...
I redeemed for a Canon A2200. I had done some research on a few different models and this one seemed the best of the bunch in the price range I was looking to pay, although not with its critics. Then I happen pass by Future shop and the sales rep really nixed it. And the more research I did, the more negative reviews I found. The SDM I bought at had told me in advance I could check it out and return it if I was unhappy with it, and that's what I ended up doing. So I'm still looking. I will either have to go cheaper and settle for basic or pay a bit more and get a better camera with more features.
I actually don't mind the less expensive basic one (Canon Powershot A800) -- except for the fact that it's a bit bulkier and a bit heavier that the higher end ones
Natalka and MrsSunshine -- that EasyShare camera you both have got good reviews. Unfortunately, my store doesn't have it.
Trinity -- thanks for sharing your experience. That's another vote for Canon...
Thanks everyone, for all your help!

Kodak has filed for bankruptcy protection... and its future is in limbo. Known for great cameras....we'll see how they fare - digital photography has jeopardized their once dominance in this area. Olympus also make great cameras but one major drawback is the use of xd cards(not SD cards) which tend to be pricier. A good camera I got when I redeemed my SDM points is the Fuji camera. It was waterproof, dust proof, 1 meter drop proof (all within certain guidelines). I've had it get dropped by a 3 year old and fallen into the pool.
So it will depend on your needs.

This is the one area that SDM really needs to improve upon. That is, their listing of electronics available at each location. It is a huge PITA to check from store to store for different models, go back home, research them comparably and decide what to buy or redeem points on.
If anyone has gotten a camera there, please drop your 2 cents in here. I'm sure myself and others would love to hear more about what models there are and where.
