Quick side note: At Christmas Walmart had an assorted starter bin for $40. It had something like 2000+ pieces, was shaped like a brick, and was an exclusive item (size of product). I bought one for my girls and in retrospect should have picked up a few as the price was really good for the number of basic bricks... if anyone sees them in Ontario again can you PM me? I kick myself everytime I look at their Lego stash because it was an awesome deal and I would have loved to have several on hand for gifts.

Those are long gone from Walmart. I never got a chance to pick them up myself. But you are lucky if you did. I'm assuming you are speaking about 5512 LEGO XXL Box: http://brickset.com/detail/?set=5512-1

That's the one! (I thought it had more bricks--- it certainly feels like a lot of bricks when your 2 year old dumps them out!!!) I wish they would bring these back--- they're awesome and my kids are way, way too young to build the kits anyways (that's mommy and daddy's job), they just like to make simple things with lots of bright colors. It was such a great deal I was a dummy not to clear the shelf of them when I had the chance. I just used the small 2x2 bricks (everything comes individually packaged inside) to fill their Easter eggs instead of candy. If they come back out with these this Christmas I will learn my lesson and pick up 2 or 3.

What is shipping like on the bigger sets from amazon.com? Lego.com has much higher prices for orders to Canada, and the best deals I've seen on current sets was Black Friday (10% discount, free shipping and a free Christmas set)

But amazon.com does not provide free shipping to Canada.

Editing to say the few Lego items I tried putting in my cart won't ship to Canada (both amazon.com items and marketplace items)

I haven't found any toys that could be shipped to Canada from amazon.com

Actually, a few LEGO items can be shipped to Canada. For example: 10214 Tower Bridge, 10211 Grand Emporium, 4195 Queen Anne's Revenge, and 21006 White House. In order to see the sets that Amazon.com ships to Canada just click "Amazon Global International Shipping" on the side bar and you're set. But with the high cost of shipping and duty/taxes you might just be better off buying in Canada. That is unless Amazon has a great deal on a set that ships to Canada.

I think Amazon UK also has some good deals and they ship to Canada reasonably too. The Harry Potter lego Burrows set (Weasley's home) is on sale now. Its retired too and going up in price.
