I've been keeping an eye on Metro because they are the only ones that I know of that sell vegetarian souvlaki. Normally they are $4.99 but they are currently on sale for $3.99. I was there Friday and saw that a few of them expired on Monday so I went over today and found 4 with a December 3rd expiry. I asked an employee if they'd be marked down because of the expiry and he said he'd take care of that. I figured he would mark them down by $1 or $1.50 at most, but he marked them down TO $1!!! And guess what I had in my binder? $1 off coupons! So I would have spent $20 on a normal price/no coupon day but they were free! Squeee!

They freeze really well and are a nice complement to the veggie satays, veggie ham slices, veggie chicken nuggets, veggie chicken burgers and veggie burgers I recently got which were also marked down and discounted with coupons. Now there is no reason to go out for dinner or lunch!

its nice for them to mark it down for you. I was at loblaws awhile back, saw some chips that were going to expire in 2 days, asked the staff, but she don't seem to care about it at all and just told me they will be taking those down off the shelve, and took those chip off my hands too, sigh...

The Loblaws employee probably did not have authorization to mark down. That comes from head office.

The produce guy at Metro has more power to mark down fruits and veggies. He has the weekly schedule rotation for perishables and markdowns. The veggie products that OP discussed are under the produce guy's control.

I think he was a manager just by the way he said "I'll take care of that for you". He took them, went in the back and came out under a minute later and it seems like he was the one who decided what the price would be. It wasn't even those $x.xx off stickers, it was a sticker with a new bar code that said reduced and then $1.00

I did it before because I'd seen them with $x.xx off stickers in the past. When I did this last year the employee told me they just throw them away when the expiry date has been reached. Such a waste.

Unfortunately, they have to throw it away. They would be liable if they gave it away and someone got sick. They are following the rules.

Great Deal, I am always nervous to ask an employee that, I am going to have to suck it up lol especially with savings like yours
