I know we lose 50% of the value but is it still worth it to convert? If I cash in my HBC points for a gift card , can I then use it to buy a different gift card like second cup or Gap?

I had my HBC card setup to auto-convert to airmiles. I recently stopped this after learning that I'm losing out by converting to airmiles.
80,000 HBC points = $10 HBC giftcard
2,000 HBC points = 1 Airmile
So for 80,000 HBC points, you'd get 40 airmiles.
A $10 Second Cup giftcard is 85 airmiles.
A $50 HBC giftcard is 400 airmiles...which would be equivalent to 800,000 HBC points which would be enough to redeem for $100 HBC giftcard if you didn't convert your HBC points to arimiles.
So you're exactly right, basically you are losing 50% of the value by converting to airmiles.
As far as I know you can't redeem for an HBC giftcard and then use that to buy a different giftcard.
