Do you have to pay duty when you comeback across? If you do is it on what you actually paid or the original value? Just wondering. I'm thinking of venturing down to Montana

Definitely lucked out with the weather
I was thrilled with the clothes - and shocked at how discounted they were. I'm happy there were still some left in DD's size
The deal is on page 17 of the IGA flyer, in the bottom right corner of the page. It's a great deal especially with the coupons
The Target is ok - I only look for the items with the clearance tags though - otherwise it's not cheap enough
And as for the MIR, it is a USA only one, but I actually only moved to Canada a little over a year ago and have a PO Box in the states - hence my trips down to Champlain, NY - plus LOTS of family - so I'm very lucky in that respect to be able to do the MIRs using the PO Box or family members addresses
My sister-in-law is always getting mail for me at her address LOL She jokes about it - says I get more mail than her.
I'm not 100% sure on this actually. We didn't have to pay duty - but we didn't buy much. I believe you can buy groceries duty free in the US and bring them back to Canada.
And for other items, if they were made in Mexico, Canada, or the US - then they woudl be duty free to bring back because of NAFTA. Otherwise, you'd typically have to pay some sort of duty depending on how long you were in gone for - and pay the sales tax too. I believe this is how it works. And when you do pay duty, it's on the actually paid value - not original value. I don't know for certain though.
The only thing I do know - is I always have to make sure I don't spend too much (never a problem for me LOL) and that I am always 100% honest at the border with telling them how much and what I bought."You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Mahatma Gandhi
