So as most of you know I had a kitchen if you can call that professionally installed by the Home Hardware that I purchased them from. The kitchen was a crap job to say the least....So I hired a lawyer, I gave him a $500.00 retainer and he said that I should get some of the $ back. Now I receive an invoice saying that I now owe another $350.00 to the law firm, so I'm no further ahead because I knew the HH would not return the lawyers calls and I was correct with the exception of the owner of the Home Hardware talking my bill up....and still no resolution. It's been a week and now I've told the lawyer today I want a yes or no from the HH as to wether they are goiing to release me from what I owe them and I release them from warranty repairs/issues. And that I am not willing to spend anymore monies on this...

I think 350 is for their office fees, paper work, faxing, shipment of documents letters, stamps etc. In my experience that is what I paid, a 500 retainer and then the extra money for their office fees. I agree with you, sometimes you have to push people to do things. I hope the lawyer gets on it. But then it depends on how long your laywer gave them to respond to the letter or documents/phone calls.

I agree, depends on what the lawyer said to HH. When lawyers are involved, unfortunately the wheels of justice seem to turn very slowly. The only one that ends up ahead of the game most times is the lawyer. You don't have much choice, since you retained a lawyer and gave a retaine, I'm sure any papers you signed said plus dispursements. I wish you the very best of luck and really hope your kitchen nightmare gets sorted out soon for you. I feel so bad for you since you have been dealing with this for quite a while now.

IDK what your plans are about next steps, but it might be easier to take it to small claims court. You would claim for the repairs etc. owing, the HH store would likely counter-claim for funds owing, and the judge would arbitrate a settlement. Lawyers are sometimes involved at small claims court, but certainly not always. It might be a way to get through this, although it can also make it drag out more, so it might not be for you. Good luck with it all!
