The expiry may have been shorter, I honestly didn't pay much attention to it *looks sheepish*
I'd wait until the latest you possibly could to get the dye and then wait until your comfortable enough to dye. I know I fried mine some good when bleaching out my brown (I normally go red and have had for over ten years) and I was so scared to dye it after that.
I home bleached with a box kit and then dropped a bit more money for some conditioner and did that every washing. My hair came right back to normal! and dyed normally
