I really like Blair MacKinnon at Heritage House, I don't think he was that cheap though. Keep in mind you may get what you pay for if you go too cheap. I had the real estate transaction from hell and Heritage House was able to keep me sane through the mess.

I went to Will Chisholm on Main Street Dartmouth when we bought our condo. Nice guy. Dunno how much he cost regularly because he is friends with my Dad so I got a deal.

I have to recommend lawyers all the time to my home buying clients. I really doubt you are going to find someone in that price ranage. If you found someone that inexpensive who does a good job for you, please let me know because I would love to add him/her to my list of lawyers to refer to my clients.
Lawyers that I've sent clients to that I've been impressed with are... Richey Clarke at Boyne, Clarke and Frank MacDonald at Hometime Law office (I really like him and his assistant Sherri is really on the ball).
Call and shop around for prices. A lot would depend on what you are buying, whether it's been migrated, how you are financing the purchase, etc. Prices do differ so you never know.
Keep in mind that closing costs are usually around 3-5% of the purchase price of the house by the time you factor in deed transfer tax, CMHC mortgage insurance, etc. I'm sure your agent has gone over all this with you already. Perhaps if you are worried about closing costs, the agent would have some suggestions on ways you can have some of that taken care of by the Seller.
Good luck, and happy house hunting.

Thanks all. My last lawyer (who was $500 for purchase last time) referred me to a past colleague of his, who will do a purhase and sell for $1,000!
Where i am buying, there is no deed transfer!
