About a year ago I responded to an OP requesting sources for online shopping in a particular category that I am familiar with. As there are only select retailers who offer shipping to Canada in this market, I responded with (as I recall) a list of some of the retailers that do. Typically a lot of thought and work goes in to compiling that resouce.

Today I happen to notice that the thread has been updated, and also happen to notice that in February of this year (more than 6 months after my post was made) a mod has edited it, removed all of the links, and referred to "links advertising stores".

Is this an appropriate use of mod resources?

Seriously. I have nothing to gain from any of those retailers. There were no referral links, no relationship in place. I'm not them. So how is it advertising to provide a url for a clothing store? I was not advertising anything. And how is one supposed to answer the question for "online sources" without including web site addresses? Charades? Pictionary?

    yes..yes it is...

mods tend to respond in these cases to us normal posters ging a problem. I suspect in your case a spammer had necromanced the thread and that was what the mod was clearing out.

Alternatively, you may have fallen afoul of the no-tiny-link rule

No other posts were edited that I could see. And I used full links (as I recall) with descriptions of the stores. Other posts by new posters (2 or 3 posts, one of them banned) were untouched -- and they contained links that could be spam.

Just wondering if your links had something like "click here" or even if say it was for old navy if part of the link said click here for old navy,etc..They don't want any of that as part of the actual link either because its easy to hide code, or referral links in that kind of link. Even if to a legit site, too many spammers will put a link that just says "click here for old navy" but the actual url hiding in the link is not actually for old navy and goes to some spam site, so they prefer no one to put links like that..just the url itself is fine though usually. Or as I have seen, someone posts a link they think is legit but it turns out it goes to a spam site and they didn't even know.

Obviously not. I can no longer see the posts from the users I mentioned as well -- one with a link to truecolourvenus.com and another with an active link (at that time) by a 2-post banned poster.

So it is obviously against the rules to post "advertising links", but can you please clarify if and how my post contained such, and how one can answer a post requesting resources for online shopping if we can't use links?

to clarify the user who posted that link you mentioned was a spammer and a recent post that revived the thread as a spammer also..

It was just a mistake from what I can understand. The other posters were spammers and taken care of by another moderator.

If you have a problem please pm me and I can look into it asap. We do have a fairly new mod team so they are still trying on their shoes. Before it was only long timers.
Unfortunately since it was 6 months ago It would take me days and days to find your original post in the log system to show you if there was anything that made the mod remove them, however keep it in mind to pm me if you ever need me to look into something

    Have a wonderful day.
