Wow! They're gorgeous, aren't they?!
They a difficult to capture on film! Very skittish. If they see me they fly.
The top pair are called bufflehead ducks. The black and white being the male
The bottom pair are mergansers. Again the B&W is the male. I think these are related to loons
I only ever cared to know the basic names as their prettiness speaks more than a scientific description
Saw my first robin the other day! Whizzed by me as I made my way to the car so just long enough to go "ooooh! a robin!"
Saw yesterday a whole bunch of blackbirds on my Mum and Dad's next door neighbors trees.
I went to see the sakura cherry blossoms in High Park (Toronto) on the weekend with my girlfriend, and she spotted a Cardinal (red bird). It was my first time seeing that bird in person. Much smaller than what I imagine. The colour on the cardinal is very nice.
I think the geese have laid! I have seen one in the same spot for 2 days now. The light is bad so a pic will follow but I was so excited I had to let everyone know.
Last year there was a grouping of 22 goslings in what I believe were 3 family groups.
Here we go!
She has been there for 2 full days now.

my mum's yard is attracting plenty this year... a red-winged blackbird, two black-capped chickadees, a cardinal & families of robins, starlings & sparrows... & a family of rats but that's a pesky problem for another thread. I've also noticed some swans who've begun nesting in a pond the pup & I walk by often... inspired by shaman's above, I'll bring the camera next time, see if I can sneak a couple photos.
Awwwwww. . .fuzzy little goslings! What's not to love? I have geese, ducks and Blue herons "drop by" my pond but they don't stick around because I have dogs. The ducks are the bravest though. .they just swim around and ignore the dogs.
The first year I had stocked my pond with some bass and perch (i even named one of the bass Jake :) and theat rotten Blue heron came and ate them all. Now I just keep koi. It seems even the Heron won't eat them! lol
I was on a trip to the Wye Marsh with my camera club today! Lots of pics.... +580!
We had a private showing of 4 raptors. Two that were free flying!
This is a Spectacled Owl named JJ. He was NOT part of the show. He was on site though and he looks too cool not to make the cut!
Unfortunately he is caged indoors and the only shot was through the wire of his cage.

Let me say that the room they had us in was green and there were 20 photographers with flashes. Lots of "noise" to deal with but I think these do okay....
This is Axel! (Foley not Rose LOL)
He is an Eurasian Eagle Owl. Currently moulting and therefore a little overweight
He's B.U.F.F.!!
a Big Ugly Fat Fella!
Check the stare if you dare!

This is Casper. He is a Barn Owl and apparently they are on the endangered list in Ontario. I was shocked at that.
He was the first "free flyer" of the day and had a miserable attitude so I arranged the first few pics like they were mug shots!
LOL
