We use Inter.Net. We pay $62.09 a month for phone with ALL additions and unlimited calling within Canada. We also have unlimited downloading.

I called the Loyalty department for Bell telling them I wanted to cancel my service about a year ago unless I got a better deal and I got one I only pay about $80 a month for Internet, TV and Home Phone which isn't too bad since they had me paying $60 at one point just for the Internet. They even gave me free rental for my PVR and at the end of the 2 year deal I get to keep the PVR which means I don't pay any monthly fees ever again for it. Sometimes if you call the Loyalty department for these companies they will offer you a better deal.

make sure you register your magic jack with your local 911 services. Some are automatic, some aren't.
Cell and land line calls can be located by emergency services. Not all magic jack calls can.

I should make a correction first. The $10 a year is for a "Canadian Number" only. Plus you need to purchase regular service
1 year of regular regular service is $29.95 or you can purchase 5 years of for $99.75.

When you first buy your magic jack ($39.95) or magic jack plus ($69.95) your first year is included, you just need to pay $10 for the Canadian number - if you like you can take an American number for free.

The regular magic jack plugs into any USB port on your computer - then you plug your phone right into it the device. That's it! It automatically sets it's self up!

It comes with call display, call waiting, call confrencing and an answering machine that can be accessed from your phone and can be sent directly to your email.

There are a couple downfalls - your computer has to be on for the magic jack to work
If your computer lags so will your magic jack which can lead to dropped calls or poor audio quality
No power - No phone

Perks of course are the low rates and free long distance and you can take it anywhere- last year when we went to PEI we took it with us and plugged it into our laptop at the hotel - very convenient can take it anywhere in the world that has internet access!

The magic jack plus has all the features of the regular magic jack but differs a little;

It can plug into your USB like the regular magic jack or you can plug it directly into your modem and then you plug your phone into the device from there - therefore your computer does not have to be on and you don't have to worry about your computer lagging. It definitely has better audio quality and like I said earlier, you can very easily hook it directly into any of your existing bell wiring and then you can plug it into any of your regular phone jacks!

In all honesty it is a great device and an awesome price - but I do not recommend it being your only phone service (for reasons like it doesn't work without power, for emergencies) I also have my cell phone which covers everything I could need!

Just a note - if you have family in another country...especially over seas it is a great idea to send them one as a gift. They can get a Canadian or US number Then you can talk whenever you want for free! I know a lot of people who have done this with family overseas and it has saved them literally hundreds and thousands of dollars a year!

I've recently installed the magicjack on my iphone and ipod touch. It works like a regular cell phone does. All you need is to be connected to wifi or 3G and you can make all the calls you want. It also comes with call display and answering machine. So neat. The only downfalls is you need to be aware that if you use the app on your phone it will count towards your data if you are using it via 3G. Obviously you won't be using your 3G data if you are connected to wifi. Try it...you'll be glad you did

Anything except Bell and Rogers is a good bet. I switched last year to VOIP.MS which is basic phone over internet. I paid 25 to keep my number and I pay per minute which is mostly under $.07, my bill is around $7-$9 per month and you can change any settings related to your phone number.
