Canadian author Alice Munro dies at age 92. Long term dementia. She won a few prizes for her writing
- Man Booker International Prize (2009) for her lifetime body of work.
- Three Governor General's Awards for Fiction.
- Two Giller Prizes.
- Canada-Australia Literary Prize.
- Commonwealth Writers' Prize (Canada and the Caribbean)
- Nobel prize for literature
She wrote Lives of girls and women, Who do you think you are? and There's something I've been meaning to tell you.
Donald Sutherland, passed today at 88 years young. I will sure miss his contributions to the silver screen.

Well it was only a matter of time I suppose. There have been rumours circulating about Richard Simmons health for a while now. Today Emergency services were called by his housekeeper and he was pronounced dead near 10:00 a.m. he was 76. R.I.P. sweet man!

I am glad he could live his life on his terms in the past decade or so. Society still gave him a tough time for dressing in disguise. Just read The Toronto Star's obituary for him and did not know the childhood reasons for his renaming or weight challenges. He was ahead of his time in some ways. He was a staple on tv for years during his fitness career.Quote:

oh geesh, Shannon Doherty has lost her long painful battle with cancer today. She really suffered personally, professionally and financially in her short life. Just 53, so sad.

According to her own account she told her father when she came home after the first assault. What was he doing (or not) to protect his daughter? Alice may not have known about it till years later.Quote:

Thanks @walkonby and @ShwaGirl for posting about Bob Newhart. I had enjoyed his old 70s series and the Newhart one as an innkeeper. Deadpan delivery for an every person perspective.
So many tv memories of prime time evenings and later reruns on various US & Cdn stations. Better than Seinfeld (I was not a fan of Seinfeld).
Dr Ruth was something else in the pre-Internet times. Tv and radio and newspapers.
Today I am especially, deeply saddened by the passing of the Democratic Congresswoman from Texas, Sheila Jackson Lee. What a woman!! Sheila served for 30 years in Congress, speaking out on any and all issues of discrimination or violence against women. Her determination as a successful member of the House of Representatives, she saw to it that legislation was passed. The list is long but among them were the Violence Against Women Act, she made Juneteenth a federal holiday and reintroduced the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
I read that pancreatic cancer took her life at 74 years of age but her legacy is one her family and constituents will be proud of.
