My sister is not going to find out what she is having. She says "few things in life are truly a surprise and they want to be surprised"

If they have a boy: Caleb Jack
If they have a girl: Abigail Rayne

I am not 100% on the spelling... that is up to them.

We call the baby "Baby J". Their last name starts with a J. (Also, my sisters name is Jamie)

Its been 11 years since the last baby in the family... I'm VERY excited!!!!

we were not gonna find out what we are having but with my due date so close to christmas and a DS that is dead set that he is getting a baby sister, we have decided to find out so that if it is a boy we can get the disappointment and resentment out of the way before the baby. also with being due a week before christmas, we want the transition as smooth as possible for him as the focus will not be on him as everyone will be all about baby. so trying to make it as smooth as possible for him as we can and if that means finding out, i guess that is what we will do.........

ultrasound is tuesday evening, so hopefully we will know then!!!!

Did you ever have issues with birthday parties or wish you birthday was a different month?

DD's birthday is exactly 2 weeks before Christmas and I always have issues with her birthday party. Hunting is the first full week of December and then after that people are busy with Christmas parties/shopping. It frustrates the heck out of me!!! I'm always wondering if she'll notice all that growing up or whether she wont even care?

For our first we didn't find out either, we wanted it to be a surprize. Of course that totally annoyed everyone in the family since they couldn't buy pink or blue. lol. But it came in handy when we had our second (DS) because everything for the first 6 months or so was gender neutral so we really didn't have to buy very much.

I know people who buy pink strollers/car seats/swings/etc. and then have to buy all new stuff when they have a boy. So it works out doubly when you wait and find out when they are born.

For our second we found out though, DH really wanted a boy. He would have been happy with a girl, but like shawlightning I wanted time for any disappointment, so that when the baby arrived there wasn't anything but happiness! Just so happened that we did have a boy! DH was over the moon. lol. First grandson on both sides.

My birthday is Boxing Day and my Mom always had issues with birthday parties so while I was young she had a party for me June 26th so that my friends could all come then I just had a friend sleep over on my actual birthday, but I have always wanted to have real party decorations on my actual birthday and not a Christmas tree...I'm going to be 38 and have still never had that, and since it would be me having to tear down the tree on Christmas Day now instead of my Mother I'm guessing it will never happen..LOL

I've heard of people doing "half-birthday parties" but I personally dont like the idea. I always host the party either the week-end before or right after her birthday and then put our Christmas decorations up after her birthday and party. It gets a little hectic though because the tree/decorations are usually put up around the 15th. But it works out because we usually get a real tree so less time for it to dry out.

I was thinking of having her party on Dec. 1st this year but my mom says it's too far away from her actual birthday (11th). My other option is the 15th, but then again I'll have to tear everything down that night, go out the next day and get the tree and try and get it all done in a day (instead of having both the sat & sun).

I just dont want her feeling cheated out of birthday celebrations, so I've always been curious how others with December birthdays feel.

Dec 1st doesnt seem too early to me, plus more of her friends will probably be able to come because the closer you get to christmas the more people get booked up with christmas parties etc

Same rule in my house growing up, which I still do to this day! My birthday is the 6th, so no Christmas decorations or tree until after that!

my birthday is Dec 1. I decorate for Christmas in November. I like christmas decor better then birthday decor...Ive never really made a big deal about my birthday though...even more so since my kids were born....

On another note, everyone please keep my family in your prayers today. My dad is having quadruple bypass heart surgery today after suffering yet another heart attack this past week and my mom is ALSO having surgery today. She is having gastric bypass surgery. And remember me again on Thursday when I go to court for custody of my baby girl. This is gonna be a tough week and Im really trying not to fall apart!!

Your baby will love his/her birthday no matter the date! Birthdays are special days regardless of the time of year, your child will grow up knowing no other birthday. I always find it funny when people ask me if I wished my birhday was a different time of year...how the heck would I know that? My birthday has always been Dec 24, that's all I know.

Whatever the date, just make it a special day for him/her- birthday gift wrap, birthday cards, birthday decorations. Don't give the all-in-one gifts at Christmas time marked Happy Birthday/Merry Christmas together. Have a separate gift opening just for the birthday. I love my birthday cards & wrap at Christmas time- I feel special becasue I get both!!

As a young child I always had my birthday party for friends on the last day of school- so much fun to celebrate & see friends that I may not see over the holidays. Everyone is so excited school is out, my parties were always loads fo fun!

My parents always made a huge deal out of my actual birthday on the 24th. The whole house was decorated for Christmas, all except the kitchen. I would wake up on the 24th to find the kitchen all decorated with balloons & streamers & gifts in birthday paper. Christmas Eve was always "birthday supper" with birthday cake.

In short- don't feel like you need to move the date & celebrate your child's birthday in the summer. The day is the day, no changing it. Don't send your child the message that you wished they were born at a different time- celebrate on the day, make it a part of your Christmas traditions! Your child will love their specail day if you make it all about them

(the story about coming with Santa in the sleigh is so much fun to grow up with too!)
