I went to No Frills to pick up a few things, and noticed some Crest toothpaste with mini Scope bonus on sale for $1.79. I grabbed a couple to use with my $.75 off coupons, but they rang through at $2.36. I asked about SCOP and the cashier was confused, so she called over a manager who approved it - yippeee! I feel like I have now joined an exclusive club

    Altogether I bought:

    Walmart
    12x Ziploc bags $2.00 - 6x $4WUB2 = FREE!
    2x Drano $3.98 - $5.00 WUB2 = $2.96

    No Frills
    1x Eggos 16's $3.29 - $2.00 = $1.29
    2x Crest + Scope bonus $1.79 - SCOP - $.75 = $1.04

    Total OOP before tax: $5.29

Good for you. I tried to Scop at Zellers last weekend when a playtex bottle rang in at the wrong price. But the cashier had no clue what it was and the superviser said they don't participate in that. Can companies opt out of participating in SCOP?

Yup. I thought it sounded silly when a Zellers cashier first told me "we choose not to participate" Like it was a birthday party or something lol. Turns out it's optional. There is a thread explaining the details of SCOP and the canadian retailers who participate. Zellers is one of the very few major retailers who opted out.

    Who participates in the SCOP?
Nearly every major retailer in Canada participates in voluntary Scanning Code.
    Does Zeller’s particpate in SCOP?
No, Zeller’s does not participate in voluntary Scanning Code. Except for i Quebec where this code is the law and not voluntary
