Long week!

I went to work for 8 am yesterday and finally finished at 4 am this morning...to have a shower and a nap to go back to work for 9 am!

The packages are very nice!

I am kind of disappointed that I mailed mine so late in week...they said it could be as late as the 6th before it arrives

Instead of going back through 19 pages to count my posts and confirm there are ten, I thought I would share a little story which kind of sums up our teenage son's take on life and couponing...

So, early in June, I informed our son that I expected him to work this summer. I told him that he was going to be 15 in August, and it is time he learned some responsibility and the true value of a dollar, which he would appreciate once he had to work to earn it.

I didn't expect him to get a full-time job or anything, I said that I expected him to have $1000 saved up by the end of the summer: $500 towards back to school clothes and $500 to bank for spending money for our trip next April. I did guide him a bit...I told him that in order to reach that goal, he would need to earn about $100 a week, which he could easily earn mowing 4 - 5 lawns each week. I bought him a lawn mower and lined up two weekly jobs for him. I told him that he could schedule 1 or 2 days each week doing that, and pointed out that by doing that, it would leave his weekends and three other days each week open and free to hang out.
He decided to go away here and there for the first month, saying that he can easily earn that in a week and he had all summer, so still had lots of time.

I did my best not to nag as he just hung out playing video games and messing around for the month of August. On Sunday evenings when my husband and I were discussing my work schedule and child care for the week, I would casually ask him if he had any jobs lined up for the week (The answer was always no). I would remind him of my friends that said they would pay him, and he would just say, "Oh yeah."

So now here we are at the end of the summer, and he's really excited about going shopping for back to school stuff. Listing all of the clothes and shoes he HAS to get. Makes a point of showing me the $140 bag that's "SICK" and he must get. I knew he didn't work this summer, but he did have a birthday and visit family he doesn't see much, so in the last few weeks he had received $400 - 500.

He told me the sports store he had to go to for THE shoes, so to the mall we go (which, by the way, is a big deal for me b/c I avoid malls like the plague...I am more of an additional percentage off the clearance rack at an Outlet store with a coupon-in-hand kind of gal). He literally approached the sales guy and asked, "What are your newest shoes? Are they the most expensive? I want the newest and most expensive ones."

Oh my goodness...it is INCREDIBLY obvious that I have taught this child nothing! Nonetheless, he has been bragging about all of his money he got this summer and he "didn't even have to work!". It is his money, so I bite my tongue. I just smile at the ugly (and I mean UGLY) $240 shoes he has on his feet and ask, "Do you like them?" Of course his answer is yes, so off towards the cash we go, with the newest and most expensive shoes and his sick $140 bag.

He casually asks, "Oh yeah, how much are you paying?" To which I responded, "I am not paying $40 for a backpack, let alone $140! You want to pay these crazy prices, you go right ahead. I KNOW how hard I have to work to earn that kind of money, and I would CERTAINLY not blow it all on a pair of shoes and a backpack!"

He says, "Oh yeah...but do you think you might be able to lend me a bit just to pay for this now...I'll pay you back as soom as I get a job."

"Oh, I'm sure you'll get right on that...especially AFTER they're paid for. But anyway, just how much are you looking for? I was planning on paying for some of your clothes and stuff. How much do you need?"

Literally, and I am not exagerating, reaches into his pocket and pulls out a $5 bill and some change (literally dimes and nickels) and says, "You're better at math than me, can you figure it out?"

Needless to say, we left the store with no shoes and no bag. Just a big waste of my time as far as getting back to school shopping done. Truly a lightbulb moment for our son, though. Who, by the way, finally went to do the jobs that I had lined up for him, using the lawnmower that I bought for him, with the gas and oil that I paid for.

Not only did he decide to actually work for a couple of days, he approached me the other night and asked, "Do you think you can get any coupons for Nike and Under Armour?"

Probably not, but at least he's thinking...

I’m not big on hair cut, I always regret it. Every single time I’m disappointed, so I don’t have it cut often. I’m a natural fuzz ball lol for now, being home I keep it long to tie it up and call it a day.

These are never have to replace... lace themselves... dog poop alarm sounding(so you dont step in it)...will grow with your feet shoes...?!?!?

Wow! I would never... ever.... well, maybe on a clearance rack..... if they reached $19.99<- That is my "high price" for shoes.

OMGosh, that's hilarious. I have to admit, I WAS the girl who used to spend easily $200+ on shoes. I went to a uniformed high school though, so my back to school shopping was pretty was pretty easy and cheap compared to normal high school students. I'd only have to buy shoes, a couple outfits (for dress down days) and necessities (backpack, binder, paper etc). However, the shoes would last me all year (I bought doc martins....remember when those were cool?). And at his age I had my own job (I babysat all summer and saved it all) to buy it. My mom bought 1 outfit for me and that was all. But I totally understand both sides. Haha. Still funny.

Pumpkin...I wish those kinds of shoes actually existed. I'd definitely buy a pair or 2 for my kid.

I will admit the one thing I spend a little more money is running shoes my kids and myself run, but I will tell you my best friend is the shoe warehouse, love that place. My sons Nikes cost $99 very reasonable in its self but with all the bonusbuck and discounts for buying a second pair I will able to get a $90 pair of Gosh heels (for DD Band) for $5 (they also have amazing clearance.

My baby girl(13) is a diva, she loves shoes and clothes and Hair and nails. But I will tell you that girl can spot a clearance rack from 100 yards. she is sooooooo cheap. She hit areopostale for there 50% off sale with a 20% off coupon with SPC and walked out with $230 for $81.00. It was only half way down the all when I relived she had paid with her babysitting money that I said hun I should really give you some money for your back to school clothes. She like whatever Mom. My 15 yr old son is jus happy to hang out in the same outfit all summer when I brought up back to school clothes he's like Why UMMMMMM so you don't go back to school looking like a bum. Thank good he is smart.

But that bring up a whole new topic he is in an advanced math I had to buy him a calculator that cost $180 after every sale and discount I could manage. WTHeck
