I currently live in a apartment building that makes each tenant pay $106.00 each year for flyers. These flyers are supposed to be free put out by stores for consumers. I called and complained and was told that it was up to the super, its the only way they can get the flyers into the building as per his request. Okay fine whatever not paying that. Now my rant. We are moving into a town house. We already have possession just in the process of moving. So Thursday night the delivery guy brings the flyers to the house to my excitement flyers and coupons.
Only to have the guy hold out his hand and say that will be $6.00.
Why all of a sudden do we have to pay for these flyers? I didn't have to before.

Not sure which area you're in but was your paper boy/girl doing monthly collections? I know in my area the paper girl goes house to house every 3 weeks or so and people can pay her as much as they want but I think maximum is $6 optional delivery charge (at least for my area).

Where I live they have kids deliver the local paper and they will collect an optional $6 every 3 weeks which pays them to deliver the paper. It is optional and you don't have to pay the amount to get the paper or can pay sometimes. It does go to the kids who do the work of getting you the paper 3 times a week in the rain and cold etc.
My kids did it for a few yrs and it was hard work for them and they only had a few customers who paid.

Find out who is responsible for flyer distribution in your area (usually the local paper) and tell them, often they dont know this stuff is going on

That's strange, the flyer girl around here gets paid .15 per flyer delivered.. so I cant see why they would also charge the person receiving them.

I live in the Durham area.. I know in the apt building the money goes to the super for allowing the flyers in the building. I did call the distribution centre about the apt building and was told the super could do what they want the flyers are dropped off at a apt of his choice and then you pay at the apt. This is not optional I was told by the lady collecting for the super either you pay or go away. Now I was not at the house when the flyers was dropped off my husband was. I do believe it was a child/young teen that dropped off the flyers. He told my husband $6.00 every three weeks. My husband, tired of me ranting lol I am sure about the building said nope not paying for free flyers. They still left the flyers with him though. Now if it is a optional delivery charge going to the kids delivering them i don't mind giving them something for their hard work. I just refuse to be forced to pay for them.
I know I can see them online but I don't get coupons and it's annoying if I want tp price match because I have to go to the store and pick up the flyers. It's just so much easier to do as much as I can with as little running around as possible. My one year old hates being in the car and hates shopping lol. Just wait until I can teach her how much fun shopping with coupons can be.

I don't get flyers in my mail, The only ones I get are the Walmart and Canadian tire ones and thats only because they are in my delivered news paper. I check my flyers online, usually they come out a few days before the sale starts.

It does sound like this is the delivery of the local paper. Odd that he'd be asking for money the first time he has ever delivered, though. My kids each have a paper route and as mentioned above, they collect $6 from each house that chooses to pay, every three weeks. My daughter does better than my son does, she delivers on a nicer street with all older folks.
In Durham Region that is how it works, and in some other areas, such as York Region, you don't pay the carrier but rest assured, you do pay for the paper in your municipal taxes. The carrier is paid for delivering, but not by the homeowners.
Metroland is the company, I would suggest calling them directly and finding out exactly how it should be for your area.Jonesy
