Thread: Advil Brag
-
Wed, Mar 16th, 2011, 12:02 PM #1
I picked up 20 packs yesterday for my two family members who use Advil regularly.
A woman who looked to be in her 80's saw me putting them all in her cart and asked me if they were good. I gave her 5 coupons and she almost fell over.
I don't take any credit for this - I give the credit to everyone here who has taught me so much over the last month or so. If it wasn't for you all, I'd still be paying full price for things. It felt great to see the look on her face - she was so excited
- and it's because of the wonderful community here!

Great job! I also wanted to share that RCSS has a Loblaws $4 store coupon for Advil valid until 8 April. It it also selling Advil Nightime for $3.97 this week. The best part is not the $0.03 you 'make' BUT YOU DON'T PAY ANY TAX ON THE ADVIL!!!!!!!!! This saves 0.48 per pack!! I couldn't figure out why I hadn't paid enough tax until I realised the difference between two receipts where I used store coupons for one purchase and manufacturer coupons for the other. The coupon does state 'Limit one per coupon per family/or customer account', but I had no problem using more. Luck of the cashier draw I guess. The expiry is Oct 2012, but even so, I hope not to need more than a box or two, so definitely not stashing these. I'm giving mine away to my friend's parents with chronic back pain and probably a box each to three of my firends (a strange gift, I know lol). But if you do have health problems and need these, you can save even more by using the store coupon.

I'm still new to this and am unsure how the tax thing works.
For example, I bought the Advil, the rang them all in, then took the $4 off a pack, so I wound up paying 48 cents for each. Is that right?

Yes, you usually pay HST on your items, although sometimes a coupons will say that tax is included in the face value of coupons. In this case you probably paid 0.45 tax (0.48- 0.03 from your purachse) if the cashier entered coupon as $4. Sometimes a cashier will reduce the coupon to the price paid i.e. $3.97 and if you're unlucky the cashier won't accept it because the coupon value is more than the item (if tax is included in the value of the coupon, point this out because it makes up for the extra value of coupon over item).

Nice brag! The only thing better than getting a good deal yourself, is being able to share the good deal with someone else, especially when they are not expecting it
