We had 4 fish that we bought for our pond. They have been growing well but one of them developed one and then two "growths" on it's head and side. S/he just kept on going but the others seemed to "chase" it. Well, on Friday, I went out and there was the poor thing - on the gravel OUTSIDE of the pond. There was NO indication of injury. I thought maybe a bird or a cat had nabbed it, but the poor thing was just dead. We used to have F, I, S, and H but now we just have F,S and H. I feel sad!

    I'm sorry your fish died.

I have an aquarium. In the past if I had a sick fish, the others generally left it alone. However it depends on the species of fish too. Fish can become stressed easily so if he/she was being chased, harassed, they will try to hide and in some cases try to 'escape'.

    RIP fish.

The growths sound like internal parasites to me. Many spieces of fish are prone to IPs, especially those that are intensivly farmed for pet stores.

I have seen several species of fish jump out of tanks for no reason. I have also had the pleasure of a cichlid decide to jump out at me and smack me in the face. A five inch fish hitting you in the face tends to leave more than a mental imprint on you..and an intereasting bruise

Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

ouch! Darth! That would Definitely startle you! We have to get an aquarium soon so that we can bring them inside when it gets much colder. It's in the high 20's today!
