Lola's RAOK Challenge and Exchange Train

Hi Ladies,

Lola, I hope you don't mind that I am stalking your thread...

I have a BIG box of samples--- I order all of the free samples... most of the health and beauty samples we bring to Cuba(to hand out) on our family vacation. But, I didn't know what to do with our laundry soap samples...

I called our local soup kitchen today..besides offering 1 meal a day to folks in need.. they also run a food bank(and a before and after school snack program too). I asked "will you accept samples of things like laundry soap?" They said "absolutely!". So, my 15 or so laundry soap samples are heading there on our monthly donation.

My hubby and I have also decided to do this (read about it online).....

We are going through are closest this weekend... anything we have not worn in the last 3 months(not "crazy cold winter clothes"--you know what I mean) we are hanging backwards in our closets--the hook on the hanger will face the oppisite way of normal(hope I am making sense here).

In 2 months, if we have any clothes still hanging backwards on hangers, they get donated ASAP.... clearly, we don't wear them.

After you clear out your closet.. you go through it again and do the same thing... this way, we are always "on top" of our clothing and can donate clothes more often.

My clothes will be going to Women in Crisis. It's a home for women who have left abusive partners. My hubbys clothes will be going to the Vincent's Place. It's a mens homeless shelter.

And, today I was the "Sticker Fairy"... she and her hubby are struggling with money... I sent each of the kids an envelope full of stickers from the sticker fairy.... just a little something to put a smile on their faces.

AMAZING idea

Oh I was juggling too many things at once yesterday and ended up burning my thumb with hot oil. Didn’t hurt to bad, until the bubble busted. Holy cow that one raw thumb a have. So my packing cession got postponed a little, until the swelling goes down and I can stand bending my thumb.

I went a did some shopping today too and picked up a box of diapers (President's Choice on clearance for $10 ), and a bunch of jars of baby food and cereal. I also managed to price match/clearance search/coupon some more food items. DH also helped out and picked up a case of beer (he figures they work hard -deserve a treat on the weekend).

We dropped all the food, clothes and goodies off on their front porch and left them a card saying that we were thinking of them Inside the card we put tickets for their entire family to attend a local festival as well as a gas card (I won on a train) to pay for gas to get there.

Most of the items came from my stockpile, so when all was said & done we spent just under $40 on the whole RAOK

We are all giddy with excitement for them to come home and find their porch full of goodies. It made our week to help them The whole family got involved and loved making someone else's life a little easier

Also got my buddy's RAOK well underway. Will be mailing it out on Tuesday!

WOW that's TRUELY inspirational....

Well as for me not such big RAOKS -- but here goes -

1. I went to Tim Hortons yesterday and their debit machine was down a middle aged lady with her son were ahead of me and all they had was debit - she wasn't informed PRIOR to ordering that the debit was down so I offered to pay for her order ($5.38 I believe)

2. Registered my daughter for JK at a french immersion catholic school and dropped off a ton of snack foods (mainly bear paws lol) and "classroom supplies" eg. pencils, erasers, paper ....

3. My neighbours who just moved in a our townhouse complex are on a fixed income and I dropped off a welcome to the neighbourhood gift basket plus a case of nestea...

That's about it but getting so much inspiration from all of your stories

Yesterday while at Old Navy getting DD some new PJ's, she asked for one of those rubber balls. At first I said no, but then realized they were only $0.25! So, I gave in. lol. I ended up getting 6 and letting her keep 1 and 1 for DS (who was at home) and then she gave the other 4 out to kids at the store. Super sweet to see her give out the balls to the other kids! It was only $1 but the other kids loved the balls.

I haven't been on much lately and just getting caught up on everyone's RAOK. It has been extra crazy here with getting a new wheelchair and issues with the school losing our request for para transit busing. So I am now taking our little one to school and picking up. Plus I learned that someone I know had an extreme preemie. Which is something I know a lot about because my little one was born extremely early so I was caught up in if they needed help or someone to talk to about everything that they were going through. Having an extreme means long stays in the NICU and lots of medical issues that need to be looked into, which makes life very scary. When we were in the NICU we had sooooooo many questions and there wasn't a lot of people to talk to so I had to offer.

Guess that has been my RAOK for the past few days but I just know I really would have loved to have someone who had gone through it to talk to about it.

I haven't been on much lately and just getting caught up on everyone's RAOK. It has been extra crazy here with getting a new wheelchair and issues with the school losing our request for para transit busing. So I am now taking our little one to school and picking up. Plus I learned that someone I know had an extreme preemie. Which is something I know a lot about because my little one was born extremely early so I was caught up in if they needed help or someone to talk to about everything that they were going through. Having an extreme means long stays in the NICU and lots of medical issues that need to be looked into, which makes life very scary. When we were in the NICU we had sooooooo many questions and there wasn't a lot of people to talk to so I had to offer.

Guess that has been my RAOK for the past few days but I just know I really would have loved to have someone who had gone through it to talk to about it.

Sometimes someone to talk to, someone to support you, someone who understands what you are going through is the best RAOK!

Today's RAOK:
DH and I went shopping, it is raining cats & dogs here. While we were putting our groceries in our car we noticed an older lady waiting outside the store (under the overhang) waiting for the rain to stop so she could get to her car. DH grabbed our umbrella, went over and held it for her and walked with her to her car. He loaded her groceries into the car and returned her cart.

Here's a quick learner, that's such a precious RAOK! Great job raising your children with kind guestures towards others!

So my 3 year old did a pretty adorable ROAK today. We've been talking a lot about random acts of kindness since i started this train and doing little things here and there just because we could - just little stuff like letting people cut in line, holding doors, bringing extra snacks for others, being super polite...you know, stuff that he can do too.

Well, we were at the park today and he brought along his FAVOURITE car. We're talking about THE toy. The one that he has to have everyday no matter what, the one that noone but him gets to play with and the toy you go back for because he's having a meltdown in the car after forgetting it - THAT toy. One of his little play friends was there and very upset because he just broke his favourite toy. (poor little guy was so upset) So Kaden comes over to me and asks for his car (it was being safely stored under the stroller) so i give it to him and he just stands there and stares at it for a while. Then he looks at his crying friend. Looks at his car....repeat for a few minutes. Then he gives out this big huff and walks over to his friend "Here you go. Don't cry" (awwww) so we all assume this is just a temporary thing which, in and of itself is pretty big considering the importance of this car (Mater truck actually) but as we go to leave, the boys mother tells him to give my sons car back to which my son replies "no. it yours now" ....ummmmm are you sure??? "Yup I sure. I be nice. Right mommy?" OMG I just about fell over 3 years old! LOVE HIM!

I keep expecting him to decide that was a bad idea and go looking for his car but nope. Natt77 sent him a new fan car thing in the package train and that seems to be the new favourite thing ever. I'm still amazed he was just able to give that thing up just like that.

Little RAOK for my son son who wanted to change the water in his aquarium today, we started off taking the water out, then I suggested taking all the gravel & decorations out, washing everything & then moving his mollies into the larger tank & moving his single angel fish into the smaller tank, at the end when we were all done he said " I really appreciate all your help with this, I know it was alot of work but my mollies seem happier now", he's only 9 and he breeds mollies for a hobby.

My daughters in a wedding party today for her good friend. They needed someone to do the ironing of 20 table clothes for the dinner reception. As they can not afford hired staff or wedding planners. I offered to iron them all.
Plus I ironed a shirt & pants for another guy helping set the dishes out.
The best part is at the last I got to set up the candy table. So sweet!
Off to the wedding. Hopefully pictures to follow of the tables all dressed up.

my biggest RAOK today is helping my son clean his room. this is a MAJOR undertaking that started yesterday and will probably continue all weekend. believe me its taking alot of kindness to be nice to him. im hoping to be done this weekend as monday is garbage day and BOB he'sa gonna have a ton of garbage.. plus i'd like for us all to go the fair together. and NOT have to worry about this room. wish me luck.
