Since I normally don't pay for my sitter as is it my 17 year old daughter that watches the boys and that is how she gets air time on her phone every month. Plus she knows that I would normally have to pay big bucks for a sitter for my on DS as it has to be someone that knows how to handle him. But I did ask her what she and her friends charge for babysitting. Her normal rate is $5 an hour for up to 2 kids, than $2 for each extra kid. (except one family with 4 kids that are a real handful and she charges them $10 an hour) She could be charging more from what I hear because of her qualifications. She is cpr and first aid certified, has knowledge about how to deal with kids with certain special needs. But most of the people she babysits for are single moms that just need a break and can't really afford to pay a lot for child care for an evening out.

i babysit all the time and i charge $7 an hour for one child and $2 for each addition child, BUT i am more then willing to negotiate. i have babysat for $5 for two kids, and ive even babysat for free. i got the $7 an hour thing from my sister who has kids. thats what her friends are charged therefore thats what i started charging. but usually babysitters don't really know what to charge and will therefore let you pay whatever.

i also think its important to know the ages. for example i usually charge that if the children are young and therefore require a lot of hands on activities. when i babysit for a family with a 3 year old and 10 year old i dont really expect to be paid for two children since the 10 year old barely needs me..

hope that helps! any other questions feel free to ask

it depends on location, is the babysitter certified and how old is the sitter. we are in the GTA and have paid as high as 10.00 an hour but average is 8.00. What worked for us was to find someone that was 13-14 yrs old that we could use for a few years before the got a real job. We also preferred boy babysitter (we have boys and they liked it better as the play suited them). my 12 yr old has now taken his babysitting course and so far his rates are reasonable, it is so nice to have this freedom. We still don't leave them for long periods and we do not go far.
Friends don't let real friends pay full price.

    $5/hour for 1-2 kids...$7/hour for 3-4
Wish we could find my son a babysitting job as he's great with kids, has a desire to "work" & earn his own cash...but not too many families with small children in our neighborhood or family/friends circle.

I pay my niece $8 an hour for 2 kids, which is reasonably cheap around here.

We are in Guelph and pay $10/ hour. This is very typical...
