For those of you who have cats, I could use some guidance.

I don't have any cats but would like to help out our local animal shelter and have no idea what to look for in terms of coupons for Cat Food & Litter.

Can anyone tell me which brands are known for going on sale at good prices and what kind of coupons I should be looking for ?
Not really interested in the Cat treats, mostly just the food, both dry & wet as well as litter.

    Thanks very much

I've switched to Iams for my cats, since Ive started couponing. Zeller's often has the 2lb bags for 6.99 and the larger 4lb bags go on sale for 9.99ish at Cdn Tire, WM and grocery stores. P&G has 3.00 off coupons that work on both sizes. Sobeys carries the small cats of Iams for .79 and there are .50 off for those. I think the last batch expired Aug 31st though.

As for litter, I have yet to find any good coupons, I normally just buy what is on sale.

The only time we have been able to get great coupons for cat items is registering our kittens through Pedigree Kitten Program.
Or trading. We've been able to trade to get a few of the $5 off Maxx Scoop Kitty Litter, which makes the litter either .57 cents or free when it goes on sale.

My other suggestion is to contact the shelter you want to donate to, and ask them what they need. Some shelters will have agreements with food companies and don't need food donations. Often times what they will need is cleaning supplies, bleach, handsoap, dishwashing soap, laundry soap. Most people don't think of these things for donations cause the only think of the animals, but someone has to clean up after the animals!

Is your shelter specifically looking for food and cat litter? The one in my area doesn't accept food/litter donations because they're subsidized by a company and they get their food/litter for free. If they do happen to get food and cat litter, they'll be part of a care package for people who adopt cats.

One place you might consider buying food and cat liter is the local food bank. Some food bank users are also pet owners.

Start looking for flyers in your area and keep track of the prices to determine when the best deals are. In my area, Wal-Mart had a sale recently of fancy feast (the small cans) for 50 cents each. The last time I saw coupons in relation to cat food it was last year, and the food itself couldn't be used as a meal, but as treat (in other words, pretty useless.)

Thanks very much for your input
I have checked out the shelter's wishlist and have made donations of cleaning supplies quite often. I was curious about the cat food mainly because I do know that it is one thing they do periodically need to pickup. Just thought I'd keep my eyes open for it
    Thanks again
