I wouldn't worry too much or feel bad about the points. Shoppers is charging $2.49 for 1 bar and they were $1.28 each tonight at Walmart. So for every non-Optimum card carrying customer that buys a bar, Shoppers is making $1.21 more than Walmart.

Hey there I have to way in....I first saw the 8000 bp thing here on the blog page just before the weekend, when I clicked the more info it stated right there plain black and white.."one redemption per transaction" and that you could do multiple transactions. So when I saw people bragging how they redeemed 25 000pts and received 56 000 bp I immediately questioned it and got shot down! I wasn't mad they got it, I was just curious? The promo was crystal clear to me....If I wanted to buy 8 bars then I needed to do two separate transactions and in the end get 16000bp...however the glitch that has happened is the computers gave 8000 bp per 4 kraft products multiple times in the same transaction. This never should have happened, shelves and stores would not be cleared nearly as much b/c its very possible people like me would want to get a bunch of extra bp but not buy 100+ bars at once because there would be no incentive to get a crazy amount of points ( ie you wouldn't buy 28 bars to get 56 000 pts b/c the computer was only supposed to give you 8000...knowing this it would be unlikely someone would buy that many bars) ....so I would hate for ppl to lose out but honestly you should have read the details of the promo. Mistakes happen and things get fixed...totally sucky I admit.
Early tonight I spoke with a manager of my local SDM in BC and they stated the stickers are all off in store and the promo will be changing and that ppl will only be able to get the promo once per optimum card but that could also be his interpretation...very possible you could still get the 8000bp in multiple transactions which is what the original intent and advertisement stated. I was able to do it early evening Wed Sept 12th.
The way I see it if something is too good to be true , sadly the odds are it is.

As of the Shopper's Drug Mart promotion page, it states only *...while quantities last. We reserve the right to limit quantities. No rainchecks*
Nowhere does it state per transaction.

I have checked and checked the Shoppers details about this promotion. I even read the posters in the stores. Nowhere could I find something indicating one promotion per transaction.
The once per transaction came from HO when someone called to complain they didn't get their points
But my fave store manager said the same to me yesterday and the fact it was allowing more than one per transaction was the only glitch. They expect to get another shipment in on the weekend, SDMs had been told to order extra for the promo as they new the demand would be high and once they get them back in, they will be selling them with points and a limit of 8 per adult customer
Would it be at all possible to change the thread title to something less alarming? I nearly have a panic attack each time I see it...
Something along the lines of:
" A rational deconstruction of Optimum Points for the 50th Anniversary Promotions" ? :)
The deal still works here in Ontario. It's almost been a full week, so I'd say SDM has had ample time to fix their computer system if there was indeed a mistake. They haven't. I assume that there wasn't any mistakes made and they are happily awarding points.
I just purchased 4 bars and was awarded 8000points.
The cashier told me the "glitch" was not in awarding the points but it was in taking the points back when the bars were being returned. Apparently, people were buying 100's of bars, getting the points awarded, then returning the bars to get their money back... the return was not triggering the deduction of bonus points so they were able to keep them. The stores all received a letter about this "glitch" from HO and have been advised to not accept returns on these. Buuuut, thats the story I was told from a SDM cashier, so who knows?
maybe it's because they take the points away, customers are mad and bring their chocolate back, because they don't have their points anymore? and shoppers expect that they will get lots of returns and wanna stop this?they send this letters out before they take the points away?
Who knows what is going on. There are so many different versions of this chocolate fiasco. I don't know if others feel like me but I am not even interested anymore of buying a few of these. I will probably just skip the promotion this weekend.
Sorry for the late reply. Just wanted to let you know what happened to my situation (no points awarded on purchasing eligible chocolate bars). I went back to the store and talked to the cashier at the front of the store explaining my situation. I brought the receipt and the other receipt showing I was awarded 8000 points for the same kind of chocolate at another store on Saturday. They said the system won't allow her to award the points and that I should contact customer service. I said no problems. Went through the store to another cashier, and she gave me the same answer. I didn't want to push it further on a store level.
So I called SDM customer service and explained to them what happened and the CSR said she couldn't award me the points either since it was a glitch in the system. Seeing how people are still being awarded the bonus points even as current as this morning, I sent Customer Service an email. Hopefully something gets done. Thanks everyone for their help here.
I just returned from my local Shoppers in Brantford and all is well....I picked up 12 bars and got all the bonus points with no problem......:-)
