Thread: Mad at Metro

Not sure if this is in the right spot but....
I was so excited when I saw the Metro flyer this week. Right on the front page it said "Best Price Guaranteed. We will match any competitors advertised price" I thought, Wow, Metro is finally price matching-awesome. That is not the case. That was just for the prime rib roast. I went there hoping to price match the cheese from Freshco
The cashier was ticked too about the flyer as she said she had at least 10 other customers thinking the same thing. Any SCer's think this also? Or was I the only one it fooled. I won't be shopping there for a while and I will be sending an email to them about how they word their future promos.

There is an asterisk next to it on the flyer indicating there is a fine print. If you read the fine print on the bottom of that page, it says clearly that they will match any major supermarket competitors' on Canada AA or higher Prime Rib Roast with proof of the current advertised retail price by a retailer within the store's geographic trade area, NOT the entire flyer. So there should not have been any confusion. It always helps to read the fine print to avoid disappointment.

Nope, it was pretty obvious to me that it was just on the Prime Rib
Given their higher pricing, I can't see them PMing across the store anytime soon

Yah. I think they messed up if the cashier had to explain to 10 other customers.
We were discussing this in the Deals thread this week

small asterisks and tiny print are meant to fool those who tend to overlook. any time you see a *, think risk and read the fine print before you make the purchase.
it's very sneaky of metro to pull this, when all they needed to do is print: We will match prices on Prime Rib Roast. See below for details.

True.
I am always weary when I see an * asterisk.
I always go what's the catch?

This is what I kind of meant. I realize I should have read the fine print but I guess I just jumped the gun (considering this is how Freshco and Walmart have their flyers advertising PM'ing)
I am the first to admit that sometimes I am in a hurry and don't read the fine print but they could have just specified what was being price matched to make it a bit easier. Thanks cookoo for not being so harsh...lol

I will admit that I thought they started price-matching as well - which made little sense, since they use a premium-pricing strategy. They already have a lower-end store in the form of Food Basics (same ownership). I did see the fine print though, and I think Metro believes it did its part by including the fine print.
Like Shwa Girl mentioned, it may be strategic - once you're in the store, many people will stay anyway. Fortinos also has a pricematch promise this week, only on a specific item (turkey?), and in my opinion, it's much clearer on their flyer.

We went to Metro yesterday, either people here know Metro too well, are not interested in prime rib or price matching but they had no one mention it (and no one found a lower price on the prime rib she told me gleefully)

I would complain to Metro saying they should make their fine print more bigger and more easier to read. So customer don't get confused.
