So I have a question...I went to SDM today and found an amazing box set that contained the following: Schick Hydro Silk razor, 2 razor refills, Skintimate shaving gel, Soft Soap body wash and a loofa/sponge. The price was originally $16.99 but it had a $5 rebate because the box was damaged. I was happy with the $12 fee for all that...but I was SURE that I could apply a $4 Schick Hydro Silk razor refill coupon on top of that. However, the supervisor made it clear that there is a difference between buying a box of refills, and a gift set with the box inside.

BUT...I made purchases of travel sets and gift boxes before with Venus and Gillette, and was able to use one coupon on top of it. For instance, in the Venus travel pack there was a Venus razor blade, so I applied that coupon, and it worked.

I guess I'm just confused. Was I able to use the $4 coupon or not? I didn't have any energy to argue, the price was good, and my kitty was waiting for me in the car because I was taking her home from the vet. But still...could I have gotten a better deal?

It depends on the place and the cashier.

But general rule of thumb - If it doesn't say any ____ PRODUCT, don't expect to use it. If you're buying a schick gift set, that's a schick product. If the coupon says any razor, it may CONTAIN a razor, but you're not buying a razor. You're buying the gift set. The supervisor was right on the money with this one.

It "worked" for you before because the cashier allowed it for whatever reason. Just like how in many cases people have used the Gillette Proglide coupon on that pack of head and shoulders that contained the BONUS razor. They weren't buying the razor, they were buying the shampoo and the razor was a bonus, but the cashier didn't pay attention and allowed it. That is human error and does not unfortunately mean that it was right because it was allowed.

Gift sets like the Teen Pack that is released around september every year and travel sets are NOT applicable to coupons, the only ones that are are things like the Johnson's baby pack or Aveeno gift sets, when, as I mentioned, the coupon is valid on any X brand product. Teen packs/travel packs are products put into a package by a third party, and since there are multiple branded items in them, no coupon is applicable on them.

Oh I figured that if it says "Schick Hydro Silk" on the actual box, I'd be able to use it. There was no restriction on the coupon like 'not applicable on trial size or travel pack". The bonus Gillette in the H&S to me is pushing it a bit...since it was a "bonus", whereas this is an actual Schick box. Nonetheless...you can't say I didn't try.

    Thank you for writing back
