Blue Bin Diving

Does anyone go blue bin diving on the day of there recycling pick up. I was thinking going out at early morning hours. Looking for people who threw out their PG booklets.

Would you be freaked out if you saw someone going through your recycle bin. Would you be embarassed if you were caught by a neighbour going through their newspaper recycling.

I'm tempted...I have a neighbour who puts stuff into my blue bin (not exactly sure why...maybe he doesn't want to put his own out?) Maybe I'll get lucky and he'll put an insert in my bin!

Our region has a law against it:

"Scavenging means that someone is taking recyclable materials from your blue box or bag without your permission. CRD Bylaw No. 2290 states that no person, except the owner and the CRD recycling collection contractor, shall remove any recyclable materials from a recycling container at the curb prior to its collection."
"What should I do when I notice or suspect scavenging?

Immediately call the CRD Hotline at 360.3030 if you observe scavenging or suspect it has taken place. Do not engage with the scavenger. All reports will be investigated."


I've been tempted, but after reading this I probably wouldn't.

I live in a townhouse complex so I go through our community newspaper bin every night looking for more inserts LOL I found 2 smart source the other night, but no p&g yet. So far no complaints from neighbours but I am sure if someone saw me they would wonder what the hell I was doing LOL

We have people who dive for bottles... and no one says anything to the bottle pickers... I just concider us "upperclass" bottle pickers...hehe...

I pay the kids to do if for me!

lots of people do it if u read the brag threads,lol. i am afraid to go digging through others but i have went for a walk and grabbed a stouffers box laying on top and found coke bottles with pins people have littered.

If I saw some coupons/flyers with coupons , I'd go ask the ower of the blue bin...if I wanted them bad enough lol

I've done it one time, and a neighbour did catch me and said what are u doing, I just looked at her and kept walking.. never said a word, needless to say if i ever did it again i'd make sure no one was watching i'd go dead in the night like 3 am! everyone is usually sleeping then.. flashlight in hand! haha! i needed stouffers pins thats why i did it!

but... I see people go through my bin to collect bottles to return i don't care if they do. but i can see people getting a little pissed about it, since there could be envies with their personal information on it!

I have gone through the big paper bins in my apartment, but I don't think I would go through personal bins on someone's lawn. If I were walking by and saw something on top I would scoop it (and I have before) but I wouldn't dig through a bin on someone's lawn. At least for my apartment bin I have a good excuse since it's a communal bin - if asked I would say I accidentally recycled a cheque or other important paper. No one has ever come in the garbage room when I've been digging, though.

I go to the recycling depot but never into people's personal bins because I wouldn't like it if someone went in mine.

It's against the law in our city to take recycling or garbage but that doesn't stop SmackUTwice and look at all the good stuff she finds.

Honestly I would be more freaked out if I looked at my window at 3am and saw someone with a flashlight in my recycle bin then someone at say 6am when it's light out and I could see what they are doing.

People who are paranoid with envelopes and personal info should invest in a paper shredder it would save alot of paranoia
