Our family will be passing on this one again.
NO, it hurts like hell.
I saw in the news that some hospitals will let health care workers wear masks also.
Ontario has the nasal spray too, but it's not free. Some kids prefer the nasal spray to the shot. Ontario government website prices the nasal spray at 30. So more options this year.
Personally I would never get a flu vaccine or any other vaccine. I prefer to keep my immune system strong through natural sources.
You can visit a naturopathic doctor and get shots/medicine to help protect you from viruses as well as boosting your immune system.
@redhdlois
I am thankful that you were able to get protection when you were a child.:top:
I am thankful that you do not have
- Diphtheria
- Tetanus
- whooping cough/pertussis
- Polio
- Measles
- Mumps
- Rubella
Thankful that you are healthy:top:
Thankful that your naturopath is healthy too:top:
Happy Thanksgiving.:-)
In our health region, health care workers get the choice of the vaccine or to wear masks.
In Calgary where my niece is at school in a Respiratory Therapist program, they have to get the vaccine.
About the FluMist - our health region offers it to only certain age groups, so check with your health region or doctor.

Myself and my family don't get flu shots (didn't know there was a pneumonia shot, won't get that either), and haven't visited a naturopathic doc either. When DS was younger, we got him the shot because his immune system wasn't yet up to snuff. But none of us have had a significant illness in years; I don't think I've ever had flu. Colds yes, but not flu. I think it's unlikely for us to get it in the future, and if we do, we have a healthy immune system that will fight it off. None of our family is high risk.
Another bit of info, some folks think that when they're barfing, diarrhea, fever, etc. that this is 'stomach flu.' That's NOT what you get immunized for, a flu shot will not protect you from a stomach virus. Washing your hands is a good defense against any virus; skip the hand sanitizer, just wash your hands well.
http://health.gov.on.ca/en/public/pr...out_flu.aspx#2Quote:
What are the symptoms of the flu?
Symptoms of the flu include:
- fever
- chills
- cough
- runny eyes
- stuffy nose
- sore throat
- headache
- muscle aches
- extreme weakness and fatigue
- ear aches (children)
- nausea (children)
- vomiting (children)
- diarrhea (children)
Symptoms may vary from person to person. For example, the elderly may not have a fever, while children can have symptoms like earaches or stomach problems.
The cough and fatigue can persist for up to several weeks, making the return to personal and work activities difficult.
@Zonny
looks like "barfing, diarrhea, fever" are flu symptoms
looks like that's what the 'flu shot was made for:-)
Yeah most stomach bugs only last a few days while the real deal flue lasts quite a bit longer. I have to laugh when they talk about hockey players being out with the "flu" . What BS if it was the flu they would not be back next game. I guess they don't want people to think that a lowly "man cold" kept them out. So much misinformation out there.
Flue vaccines are a guesstimate at best. They try to predict which strains will be dominant for the forth coming flu season but it's still just a crap shoot.
Also know that here in Quebec at least the H1N1 vaccine was included in last years vaccine.
From the CDC this years predictions.

Also complicating things this year the enterovirus.
