Yeah, $5000 seems like a lot. I was rear ended last year at a low speed. I needed to have the bumper cover replaced, the bar under my bumper, the cover on the spare tire, and the panel where the light is replaced and that cost $2500. I drive a newer SUV as well....
Love like crazy everyday and smile.

Piggybacking off the posts that think the quote is high. Sometimes autoworkers will quote max. if they know it is an insurance claim... I like Darth Penguin's idea of getting another quote.

What a bummer - we know a little about dents and scratches here in our household. My hubby's car has a nice scratched bumper thanks to our niece driving alongside it. She felt horrible and her car was really damaged badly. My hubby told her there are worse things in life to worry about and told her not to worry about his car. She gave him a gift card lol....she was a poor student at that time. Then one of our sons dented it with his truck...same side of the car. We drive our vehicles till they die so are not worrying about it and that really is the last thing my hubby worries about anyway
Our other vehicle, a 15 year old van, has it's share of scratches as well.....from our then little boys riding their bikes too close when parked in the garage. Ah well, the vehicles look not bad from a distance.... but it sure does make a difference if a person's vehicle gets damaged by someone who just runs off - what a cowardly thing to do! I would be furious too. I would certainly file a police report.

If it's only a year old suv, then why not go through insurance? I assume you have a lot of claims thats why you do t want to go through insurance. And its a year old car....new cars arent cheap. U can fix it if u dont want to go through insurance. Anyone with a new car would go through insurance...doesnt make sense.

Sorry to hear that
I also live in an apartment building, but I have to park my car on the side of the road. i've had so many scratches from bikes it's insane. But a $5,000 damage...that's just sick. I won't give you any advice because I've never dealt with the insurance company that I have or any for that matter of fact, and wouldn't know where to start. I do hope that you can figure this out and that you don't have to pay too much out of your own pocket. Cheers
Complete quick surveys and cash out at every $20. Receive a cheque, deposit it into your bank. That easy! https://legerweb.com/2Q7V3

Sorry to hear someone hit your car. I'm a Licensed insurance broker in ON and AB, this is considered a claim but If you reported it to the police then it would be a not at fault loss. This shouldn't make your insurance rates increase but if you've had several claims over the last few years then they may non renew you or you may lose any claims free discounts you might have. You would still be required to pay your collision deductible but if the damage is $5000 dollars obviously it is worth it. Most collision deductibles are $500 to $1000. (unless you've requested something higher) hope this helps. : )

Then make the claim and be done with it...why would you pay for 5,000 of damage?? They make even waive your first offence...some insurance companies do this if you're a long time customer with a good record. 5,000 may be a lot of damage for them to overlook, but worth a shot.
Plus, you have to pay the deductible...don't forget that.
