My kids aren't in school yet but I've heard great things about Portland Elementary - one of the reasons we moved to the neighbourhood! Also wonderful things heard about their Excel (before and after school) program.

We are in Eastern Passage, and the school system is amazing! I highly recommend it. Also, the Woodlawn area (as you know) has an excellent school system also.

Nope it didn't, we did an out of area transfer at the end of October. Hasn't been the best 2 months and above all, I had 16 awesome coupons expire because I wasn't paying attention to them
It's the main reason we're moving. I really should have went and interviewed the school, but I never thought of doing that. The school board councilor is great though in this area.

I just love Mount Edward Elementary. DS went there and the staff were amazing. The class sizes were really small too.

Our kids went to Bel Ayr in the woodlawn area. I volunteered there for 9 years. Awesome school family. Also, Eric Graves was a very good Jr. High as well.

Hawthorn School is a hidden jem in Dartmouth! Small school- usually only 1 class of each grade & possibly 2 other mixed grade classes, and small class sizes. HRM Schoolboard website lists less than 200 students.

Helena, may I ask which school you transferred out of?
@Erin's mom, Hawthorne was where I started school many, many, many years ago. It was a lovely school back then.<a href="http://www.TickerFactory.com/savings/wm8fbWz/">

I'm so surprised to hear that Helena. I grew up in the area, and heard nothing but good things about Bel Ayr and Mount Edward. Times have changed I suppose. Doesn't sound like a great two months

New principal, teacher not a primary teacher, new staff for lunch = complete weridness, it was like being on the moon - kids crying in class in October not wanting to go (not mine). I know school is different from pre-school but didn't think it was that drastic.
We picked it because we heard great things and because I went there as a child but were shocked to say the least at what transpired and our DD wasn't coping with whatever was going on, we still haven't cracked her but my goodness it is like night and day now. I didn't know school was like this now, I don't ever remember it being like that and we've both worked for the HRSB. The new one is much better and her new teacher looks at us funny cause she doesn't understand why we are so over the moon that our DD has a smile on her face everyday.
