Hi everyone
My brother won a Vanilla Visa gift card in a contest and boy is it a pain to use! It is for $75 and says "electronic use only" which we assume means only for use online.
Well as you may know, the Visa giftcards are just like the Kelloggs gas cards. You have to tell the cashier to put exactly the correct amount in or the card will be declined. Good luck finding ANYTHING that comes up to EXACTLY $75 in your online shopping cart. Even buying $75 in gift cards doesn't work because there are shipping fees that bump the total up to over $75.
Does anyone know of a website that will let you pay with two credit cards and allow you to choose the amount of money you want to charge to each card? We've had no luck. We are hoping to turn this nightmare into giftcards that we can actually use, but will take merchandise if we can find a website where this will work! Has anyone had luck with these crappy, crappy cards?
Thanks so much! And a note to those who are thinking of giving these as gifts...don't!This thread is currently associated with: Kellogg'sApply every possible promo code to your cart, at every store that you visit (and get points for cash back on top of that?). It's sweet and easy with HONEY.

Hmm. I've received these and have had no issues using them at regular retailers. Has he tried that already?

These can be used in store!
Electronic use only just means it needs to be swiped, it can't be manually done, but stores don't do that anymore anyway.

Thanks guys. He tried to use them at a store (don't know where) and they said the card was for online spending only. We'll have him try again somewhere else and see what happens!

The store was incorrect! These can be used anywhere that visa is accepted!

Exactly. I bought several vanilla visa during the shoppers promo. Used them all up on groceries. I just tell the cashier to enter it as $75 visa. Then it subtracts $75 off the total and the card.
It's electronic in the sense you can't do it the old fashion way where they took an imprint of it.

I have used it online and at stores. I bought tickets at ticketmaster online then used the balance to buy food at Fortinos. Its just like a regular visa card.

I bought a $50 per-paid vanilla MasterCard and it wasn't letting me purchase on ticketmaster.ca I know it takes some time to activate even after buying the card and doesn't always work right away, but usually I've been able to use them with no problem within an hour or purchase. Anyhow, I followed your link and noticed that on vanillamastercard.com there is an option to register my card. I entered my postal code to register it and done. Went to make my purchase again after trying ten times and it worked! Just needed to activate my card to use for online purchases
Thanks so much for your help!
