In my mind 1 per item it's like 1 per purchase.
Example: I using 4 niveas coupons on 4 differents products
Hope it's help you!
2 x 2$ = the person use 2 coupons on 2 differents products
Got many time price matching plus a coupon at walt mart : if it on another flyer and you bring it with you ; you will have no problem at all... I go before to Custumer Counter before just to get sure.

The example you are showing is more like a LD staking coupons...the person could use many coupons to egal the price what product she want for free...example diapers.

one per item means one per purchase. For example, if you are buying 2 pastes each one is an item, each one is a individual purchase so you can use one coupon per each item that you are buying per transaction. I was confused at the begining too until you know the difference between a purchase and a transaction.
Purchase= each item
transaction= is the total amount that you pay
Now, there are some coupons that said one per transaction, so it means only one coupon for the product that you are buying.
But when the coupon says per purchase you can buy as many as you want per transaction, at less that it is a limit.
I hope this help

At my RCSS you are able to use a coupon from the 'coupon zone' AND a vendor coupon together. So always grab the coupons, save them for awhile (some have longer expiry dates) and then combine them if you are able. Not sure if all RCSS do this but mine just started so you might want to check into that where you live. Good luck!!!!

Some cashiers though will say that one per purchase means one per transaction. I then nicely say No I'm purchasing 3 so I should be able to use 3 coupons, all of them together is the transaction. If they still say no I either say ok I will only buy one then or ok I will do 3 separate transactions then. I don't want to hold up the line and I won't argue with a cashier. I've only said I'll do the separate transactions a couple times and both times they said forget it, I'll put them all through. I think they don't want the extra work.

I went to Loblaws the other day and was told that it is their policy that per purchase means per transaction not per item. Same goes for Food Basics, been told this many times there too.
However many other stores translate per purchase = per item.
Every store has their own guidelines. Annoying.http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/Dayanara - Earn free stuff just for searching the web!

Most of the time the coupons say "limit of 4 like coupons per shopping trip" so if you do get a hassle, pointing that out to them should help clarify it.
