In the box in the basement. Bring it out 2, maybe 3, times a year....
That's what my Grandma did. That's now what my dad does. And that's what I'll do.

I am getting this for my husband. He loves to make meat on the smoker...I don't have a huge storage area in the basement, but hey, you can always find room!
LF: kashi from websaver and 50 cents any cereal printout
FT: Mann's veg and more! Check out my tradelist/wishlist

I hear ya there! I don't buy deli meats as a rule (although we do go to Subway sometimes). Can't stand the idea of how full of salt and preservatives are in that stuff. I'd love to make shaved roast beef, etc. for sandwiches. But not sure I can justify the $$ to DH.

just so you know...sobeys west (not sure if it's the same in NS) sells maple cured ham and a turkey I think that they make themselves with no salt or perservatives. It is just ham, that's it. Also, if you can find natural selections brand, they also have no nitrates in it....I know not as good as homemade...but hey...can't win them all.
