scammers at the grocery store

This is # reason I buy only sealed products, I don't care if store offers 90% off in reduced section!

Firts hand i saw a lady peal back plastic on sour cream and stick nose in it to smell, open 2-3 then found one and took it, the other 2 she put to teh side, and will assume a store employee or unknowing customer took an dput back on shelf.


Chips is very common, whats a cashier gonan do if you refuse to pay....upset sustoemr holding back you line, calling manager etc.......guess what 80% time they will just act like they saw nothing and ask if you had purchased or brought in chips prior to opening. This is very gets sketchy./... as eating chips you are walking in isles etc... you honestly think no other employees saw you eating chips and it is not there job to inquire if you bought them.. but if they saw you putting into purse a whoel different storey.

RCSS has the 50% off pink sticker items. I saw someone trying to peel off a pink sticker off one item and place on an item in their cart. I alerted store employees and they met them at the check out -- no deal on that item for them.

Thanks (I think) for sharing your experiences. Sheesh, I never realized how innocent I was - I honestly thought this was quite the anomaly, never dreamed of the awful things folks would do. :yikes:

that why everytime i go shopping I open every box to make sure everything is there or seal

I have a similar story to share, one night my friends and I were at a truck stop.. its the local irving station just outside of town with a restaurant (used to be 24 hours but now is not!! Takes all the fun out of going....)

Anyway, this location, like many others everywhere included a corner with baked goods, hot beverages and hot dogs already cooked and in the bun wrapped in foil you just dress it yourself. I was grabbing a coffee and I saw a man literally STUFFING his face with hotdogs I dont even think he was putting anything on them. He ate 4 right in front of me and when I went to pay for my coffee, I let the cashiers know that he was eating hot dogs in the corner. (The cashiers were Maximum 20 feet away!!!) Now if I had a feeling he was going to pay for them, I would not have said a word. HOWEVER he was acting shifty and it just wasn't sitting well with me.

Not sure how it turned out, but I was amazed that a) someone had the balls to scarf down hotdogs without paying and b) the cashiers (4 of them in a not so busy store) wouldn't notice him doing this and say something. Maybe they are waiting until he leaves before they can actually speak up... I know thats the policy with shoplifters but what about when the hotdogs have been long digested?

It never ceases to amaze me, the lengths that people will go to! And, we all pay for it in the end as prices continue to rise on everything from food to health and beauty items.

I always check expiry dates and to see if a product has been opened. If it looks like it may have been opened, I just put it aside and take another. I too, have seen people making themselves a snack or meal in a store, unbelievable!

this thread is really gross. Not exactly what I was expecting with the title 'scammers'

I always try to 'examine' the product before, but that doesn't mean I haven't ended up with opened boxes and such.

This thread is a real eye opener with some major gross factor. The finger in the margarine was beyond comprehension! Ick.

I have technically given food in a grocery grocery store to the children before purchasing... usually by opening a package of buns and handing them out... almost always after ordering at the meat counter (after it has been weighed so I will be paying for the full amount I will ask for a piece for each child to eat. Also done this with juice boxes. I haven't done this is quite a long time as they are all old enough to wait until we get home to eat. Never did I have anyone ask me not to do it or even notice for that matter, the full/entire product was always paid for and the shopping was quite pleasant with full tummied kids. It wasn't an every time we shopped event, however I did it many times over the years. Surely hope no one thought we were stealing!

That margarine thing..nasty!!! Who eats straight margarine?!

I've bought a carton of OJ before and when I brought it home, opened the plastic cap, the little pull tag was gone. Buh bye OJ.

I've bought deodorant that had the plastic cover (you know under the cap) missing too.

I check EVERYTHING now!

The other day my mom, daughter and I were shopping at Zellers and my daughter started fussing. My mom grabbed a box of Ritz crackers and started to open them to give her one and we were fully going to pay for them, just didn't want to stop half way through our shopping. An employee quickly said "M'am, you can't open those unless you pay for them, I'd be happy to take you over to the Customer Service Department to pay for them." She handled it extremely well, wasn't rude, but definately got the rule across that they want it to be paid for first. We weren't offended at all, even though we weren't going to steal it... how are they to know? I'm sure they have people do this all the time that DON'T end up paying for the item.

On the other hand, there was a time that my son (type 1 diabetic) had a rapid low bloodsugar and I grabbed a bottle of juice out of the cooler and gave it to him to drink right away. It was the first thing I put on the belt to pay for, and I explained to the cashier why it was opened. She totally understood. We live in a small community though, so people do seem to be a little more trusting.

What disgusts me is finding discarded packages of opened and half-eaten foods around the grocery store. For some reason, chips seem to be the most popular, with bakery items a close second... Really, who opens a box of cupcakes, takes out two, then ditches the remaining cupcakes in with the laundry detergents where it'll go unnoticed until long after they have left the store?? Ditto with finding peach pits among the peaches! The grossest is truly with the fresh produce as I myself sometimes eat an apple or peach on my long walk home from the store without washing it ('cause, you know, I get hungry lugging groceries back on the 2.5km trek home).

One I saw last week: a mom had her 2-yo in the front of her shopping cart. She pulled the cart up next to the fresh fruits. While she was filling a bag with pears, he leaned over and started grabbing apples and throwing them on the floor. After he'd thrown 3 or 4, she stopped him, looked around, then put the apples back on the display rack!!!! Sorry lady, your son just ruined that fruit! He broke/wrecked it (because really, who will buy a massively bruised apple that's now dirty from the floor?), you should buy it. End of story.

It just makes me so sad. and disgusted.

Wow this thread is a real eye opener. Who eats butter? I never check anything while shopping, Ive never had anything happen to my food, but I will definatly be checking from now on.
