I am a Mormon and in the church it has been taught for decades that members should have at least a year's supply of food and such for the hard times when one might lose a job or there should be a natural disaster or something. Often a hard thing to do but if anyone's going to have it they're going to be on this website. I was wondering who out there might be a Mormon and is working on their food storage. Pictures would be wonderful and sharing of helpful hints.

The church itself has a welfare system where they have warehouses with food, clothing, necessities for those member's hard on their luck to help them get through it that has been around since the early 1900's. There is a lot of information at this website as well including food storage, spreadsheets with what you need for basics, how much per person, etc.\

I'll post pics of my own stash soon, not a year but slowly increasing. Scoping garage sales for more shelves.

I'm not a Mormon - but is a very good idea to have stuff on hand for any hard times.

Shop craigslist for shelves. Not sure where you are but in my area, there are FREE shelves listed almost daily.
A years worth of items would take alot of shelves.... good luck.

I've certainly been making plans to have a supply of food and materials for shielding needed in case we ever need to turn our crawlspace into a fallout shelter (I was a very nervous cold-war era kid)

I'm curious. Why is this such a focus in the Mormon church?

That is a very smart thing to do. I'll have to check out their list when I have time and see how my supplies compare. I bet I'm close to having a year's worth of most stuff!

We're taught to be self-reliant and prepared so that we can help ourselves and others. Also, to have gardens if we are able and teach our kids how.
