Thread: 20x Redemption Math

Hello
Thanks to everyone for your help in the past.
Yesterday I went to a SDM in downtown Toronto that participated in the 20x event on Friday.
I bought a Playstation Vita which was 249.99. I used 95000 points to get 170 dollars off.
The breakdown is
249.99 + taxes of 32.50 - 170 redemption = 112.49 out of pocket
I got 15800 points which is 79 dollars x 20.
Just wondering should it be 249.99 x 20 points, since I used my redemption to some of the full amount of 282.49?
I went to a SDM tonight and saw that the store was selling the PS Vita for 10 dollars less (oh well) and a weird sign stating if you paid full price you would it for like 90 dollars plus 38000 points or something like that. The lines were busy so I couldn't remember properly. Wished I took a photo.
Sorry if this is a repeat of a question answered before.
Thanks

You only receive 20x points on the amount that is over $50 after points redemption and before taxes.
Still a great deal!

The 112 included tax on the full amout, you don't earn points on the tax.
249-170= $79.
So you would earn 20x the points on amount you spend which is $79.
I don't think you remember the sign correctly since what you are saying doesn't really make sense.
If you bought it today for $250 you would earn 50 000 points which is $85 off. Maybe it said something along that.Get free gift cards for amazon & paypal. I've earned $100's with the click of my mouse!

I saw a sign at the electronics counter today but it was something like spend $100, get 10,000 points or something like that. I didn't really pay attention to it. But it was definitely an even number starting with a 1, not 38,000

Thank you for your help. Just wanted to make sure. The cashier was a bit cautious on doing the transaction. You are right about the deal, I only used 80000 points and paid only 112 dollars out of pocket. First time I redeemed on a 20x day. Didn't want to wait for a super or mega redemption.

as far as I know, you don't earn 20x points if you are redeeming points also. Am I wrong and you do in fact earn points on the out of pocket cost, after redeeming x amount of points?

You earn if you still have a balance after redemption. So if it's spend $50 get 20x the points, you would earn 20x the points on you balance after redemption, as long as it is $50 or more.
So in OP's case, the remaining balance after redemption and before tax was $79. So they were over the $50 minimum and earned 20x on the $79.
